Experience of MAC based UPnP Client(s) for HDX Server?

Posted by: adm95 on 06 September 2011

I'm interested in hearing what success anyone has had with a UPnP Client residing on their MAC and pointing at the HDX Server?

Any recommendations out there?

EyeConnect works. It's not amazing, and its alphabetization is... curious... but it works. It's a 30-day demo, but after the demo expires it goes into "audio only mode", which is to say it continues to work.

Given that some of the best music servers are Linux based it should be relatively easy to build a decent OSX UPnP server for the Mac. Sadly Gary is right and even Squeeze Server (LMS) kinda sucks on the Mac. Actually it is also pretty ropey on Linux at present but that is another matter. Vortexbox (Linux) or run Asset using Crossover Mac. Tog

I think you guys have this backwards–the OP was referring to a UPnP player (client), rather than a UPnP server.

The easiest UPnP client I can think of is PlugPlayer, available on the Mac App Store.

I've been using PlugPlayer since it came out on OS X. It's far from perfect, but it works and is only £3 through the app store, so worth a go.

I'll give PlugPlayer a go.
