Do you like Talking Heads?

I love all there music and most of the bands solo and husband and wife output.
I have just been listening to Bob Harris OGWT at 40 show on BBC Radio2.
Went off to the loo and came back to turn the tuner off.
The Trevor Nelson show was just starting as i went to hit the off button.
I had to leave it on.
He was playing Slippery People done by the Staple Singers,I have never heard this before.
What a brilliant cover.
A must listen imo.

Yes they were once my favourite band and Slippery People was one of their greatest songs.
I'm not sure what's happened with this forum Stu - there used to be lots of replies and chat about music but it seems to have faded away - it's such a shame.

+1
Quite like the Staples though
As for Talking Heads, the only albums by them I thought worth getting were
- 77
- More Songs About Buildings and Food
- Fear of Music
- Remain in Light
- Speaking in Tongues
- Little Creatures
- True Stories
- Naked
Apart from that and few brilliant non-album singles what did they ever do for us?
All the best, Guy
yeah you're right mostly they were s***e Guy
I really like the Little Creatures album, then slightly less so Remain In Light.
The others have never really "hit the spot"
As for the OGWT, I've so far been missing it all as I don't have a tuner at the moment.
(Still waiting for the right one to come along - NAT03 is all I can budget for right now, as I'm aiming at a pre & power u/g first, and they're not too plentiful just now)
Anyway, is the OGWT to be repeated at some other time, does anyone know? ( he asks hopefully! )
"Stop Making Sense" is a brilliant concert DVD/Bluray/Album.
^^ Fully agree.
It has a timeless element that sees me sitting down and watching it at least once every 6months.
I have leant it to many friends who had know idea how good this DVD is / was.
Little Creatures takes me back to early high school days.......great stuff!

Indeed it is.
The soundtrack CD popped into my letterbox yesterday so I was listening to the music last night.
For a long time I have been going to get some CD's (already have the albums on vinyl) but I don't know where to start. Probably Speaking in toungues.
I think the last issue of "More Songs A B & F" with the bonus tracks is my favourite of the CD releases with the alternate version of "The Big Country" showing their (or Brian Eno's) willingness to experiment to good effect.
The DVD of "Stop making Sense" is worth buying just to ogle at Tina Weymouth in her prime.
One of my all time fav bands. I bought all the early albums when they were released and when compared to some of other stuff around the time they, along with Eno and Robert Fripp, were miles ahead of the field.
Still play 77 on a regular basis.

I'd nominate "The Name of This Band is Talking Heads" as essential.
I always have 77, Remain in Light, and Speaking in Tongues out and standing close by the turntable. I'm now on my third copy of each.
This must be the place...
OK I have eaten my words
I remember Peel playing '77 and apologising because he was playing it for the first time in '78.
Always have a soft spot for Fear of Music - maybe because it's their least produced studio album (recorded in a domestic loft space).
My Life In The Bush of Ghosts eclipsed all the TH albums IMO; I was fascinated by the ethnic music samples and went out and bought the complete 6LP set of Music In The World of Islam on Tangent. No looking back after that..........opened up a whole new world of music.
Also DB's contribution to Roberts Fripp's God Save the Quenn/Under Heavy Manners is an excellent piece.

Never been able to really get into MLITBOG, but will give it another spin.
IMO,
I dont think as a band or any of them as solo artists have made a bad album.
I will never forget the first time i saw SMS on VHS.
A friend of mine bought it when it came out and it wasnt cheap back then,
I think he paid around £30 for it the pre-order from the local video shop.
There were loads of people in my living room that night.
We did the same when the True Stories film came out on VHS.
Also did the same when Roger Waters Radio K.A.O.S and the Floyds The Final Cut films came out on VHS.
Wonderful times.

Gawd, what a great post! I don't know what possessed you to post it, but it is nice to see discussion of music every so often. One of my favorite all-timers, too. The comment about being miles ahead (at the time) is spot on. Mr. Dane's rotation is close to what I have as well. Listening to these guys on vinyl is just so much fun.
Another group I really like. I haven't met a TT album I don't like, saying that my collection has 7 out of 11main albums, + 1 best of.
Stop Making Sense, is the first I had and so is de-facto "best" for me.
Recently got SMS on blu ray, and whilst the picture isn't the best (maybe best described as atmospheric - grainy) it sounds great.
Along with Steely Dan Talking Heads were probably America's greatest band of the 70's/ 80's,
I saw them live in Newcastle when the excellent Fear Of Music was released and later at Wembley when they had expanded their line up. As with Steely they really didn't ever release a duff album. but if pushed Remain In Light would just about be my fave - an album chock full of dense poly rhythms and amazing guitar from Adrian Belew.
I've also seen David Byrne live a couple of times and he was crackin' as well (his solo albums carry on the quality he'd started with the Heads)
I've been a sad collector of their stuff for years and especially love the 12" mixes (esp " Crosseyed and Painless") ...actually Chris and Tina's Tom Tom Club were great fun as well!
Sound wise The DVD-A versions of their albums (AKA "The Brick") sound fantastic!
.....Don't Threads like this send you scurrying to dig out stuff from your collection?
I still play Little Creatures, Remain in Light and Stop Making Sense on a regular basis.
Regards,
Michel

I would recomend a hunt through NPR's Tiny Desk concerts on iTunes for the Tom Tom Club offering. A truely super 15 minutes of music.

NPR Tiny Desk session from TTC is very good, thanks Jono.

I have found several really good sessions on NPR, including Hot Chip, The XX and Radiohead.
Back on topic though, I saw them at Wembly Stadium in 1982 (?) and they were right on the money.
