Problems with Flac in Unitiqute

Posted by: Dueholm78 on 08 September 2011

Hello.

I have a issue with my flac files that i have ripped and I was wondering if anyone could help me.

My problem is that on maybe 50 % of the Albums that I have ripped my Unitiqute only finds the first track eventhough the all songs are in the folder when I check it on the PC.

I also use the N-stream app for my Ipod but no luck finding them there either.

I have ripped with many different rippers with the same result.

I have a Lacie Networkspace 2 NAS.

Anyone have a clue what to do?

Thanks.

D, that's strange. Are your flacs tagged properly, and what UPNP server are you using? Thanks!

Sounds like your uPNP server software is faulty or not working properly. If the files are there and tagged  it needs to index them for the  client to see them. What software you using? you might want to try Asset with a 30 day free trial and see if that works, it usually does very well.

I have the same issue with my Lacie Networkspace 2 NAS hooked up to my Uniti via a Netgear router. The problem appears to be at the Lacie end of things since I see the same results when using the uPnP peek app on my iphone. I have found that the missing tracks do appear if I go to the file manager from the Lacie NAS homepage. I have also discovered that if I delete the effected folder / album using the Lacie file manager and then restore it from the recycle bin all tracks are then available to the Uniti.

Hope this helps.

Which is why I prefer using a full strength server Asset or Vortexbox rather than a NAS. The level of control, flexibility and horsepower that you have is much higher with a server for little additional cost. Tog

I tried to access my Lacie through the web page but it will not accept my login.

Maybe I should try resetting it to the factory setting and try to get access and do it like you mentioned.

Thanks

I am very new to this streaming audio so I might have made some wrong investments.

What is this Asset and Vortexbox you mentioned. Is it difficult to set up?

Is there any pattern eg are affected albums compilations? Do you have an "album artist" tag field populated I'm not sure how the albums are displayed when using your NAS but when a couple of albums of mine were displayed several times under different artists I just added 'album artist' tag and 'album artist sort' tag for good measure and they showed up OK after that.

It does sound like the application hasn;t indexed your files for serving them up to the qute. Is there a 'search for new music/media',  'rescan music media', 'rebuold library or anything like that'? Are FLACs aasociated with the application you use? Are all codecs installed?

Do you have large or multiple images embedded into your albums? I have not noticed this causing an issue on the Qute but it caused the FF/Rewind slider on WMP11 to be inoperable and the duration field to be empty. Guess it has something to do with calculating the duration of tracks from sample counts. .I have some albums with multiple rather large *.PNG artwork files embedded and they have played fine on the Qute.

I was using WMP 11, which didn't stream FLAC for the most part of it's time on my PC. I installed codecs no avail. One day without intervention it just started streaming FLACs to Qute and playing FLACs on WMP on my PC. A few days later it overwrote 179 folder.jpg artwork images with the same artwork.so I binned WMP.

Is Asset difficult to set up?

Asset on my PC (I don't have a NAS or iPad) worked within moments of installation. I didn't have to do anything, it just took a couple of minutes to scan all my music files. I started playing them before the scan was finished.

The only user interface is the config tool and there's nothing technical in there at all, the most advanced settimngs are just to fine tune how you want the music displayed on the Unitiqute display; nothing complicated. You maybe won't have to do anything with these advanced options if you have the n-stream.

It is far easier with Asset to navigate and search my music using the Unitiqute remote control than it was with the WMP stream. I fnd I can browse the albums quicker too c.f. the Windows Media Platyer share.

I expect the server version would be similar.

You should be able to get the Lacie to e-mail you your login details if you configured this on initial set up. The default user name and password is "admin" if you didn't change it from factory settings. Do you know the firmware version of the Lacie? I have recently upgraded mine to the latest version 2.0.5, I don't remember having this issue since. There are two methods of doing this, both require login details, instructions can be found on the Lacie website. Best make sure you have a backup of everything before attempting an upgrade, just in case!

Hope this helps some more.

Asset UPnP is a PC based suite of programs that primarily acts as a music server for UPnP based devices. You can download a free trial , buy the software or get it as part of an AssetNas or RipNas dedicated device. It is a well respected and well maintained solution.

Vortexbox is another Linux based suite of programs - free to use and well maintained ( version 1.10 has just been released) - you can install it on a spare intel based PC you don't need for anything else ( an old atom based netbook is a great place to start) and it will rip and serve to UPnP, iTunes Sqeezeboxes and Sonos rather well. You can build an I3 based server for about £400 or buy one a Vortexbox appliance. Control is via web interface.

A related question - I hope!

I used dbPowerAmp to convert my iTunes collection to FLAC.  My Qute can see the files I copied onto my NAS and will play tracks within the sub folders - by Artist.  I believe it will play everything - either in order or random - but only within each folder.  Can I get the Qute to play randomly across all the folders? Or do I need to strcuture the files in a different way?  What about iTunes playlists?

Thanks

I will send them an E-mail and see what they can do. Seems like my account and everything dissapeared. I will certainly need to upgrade because I am running on version 1.2.9

If this means that i have to do a factory reset so be it.

But for now I have found a sollution for the problem. Strangely if I rip into a folder I´ve created on the Lacie and then move them out of this folder every album suddenly has all the tracks visible to both the Unitiqute and the N-stream app on my Ipod.

Do not ask me why this works but it does.

So I just want to thank everybody for their help and suggestions.

Thanks
