HDK & NAS 'not enough free disk space' (?!)

Posted by: motughosh on 12 September 2011

My HDX rips CDs directly to my NAS (Synology 8TB). The NAS is barely full yet but I have just started to get a message on the HDX when trying to rip 'not enough free disk space'. Apart from that the HDX is working as normal...

Nothing has been changed in the settings and I have restarted both server and HDX a couple of times. There's very little I can find online in forums either. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a size limit to Naim music stores?

Thanks

PS: naimmusic folder on nas has 212 gig of ripped CDs in 605 folders.

Does your NAS have a UPnP server built in? If so you should disable it. However before doing anything you should contact your dealer first.

Just a few questions to help diagnose the problem:

Perhaps you could start by trying to write a file directly to the NAS drive from your computer? Make sure you are using the same user that you are logging into the NAS with from your HDX.

How are the drives set up in your NAS drive? Are they set up as one RAID volume? Does the network share have some sort of quota, (some NAS boxes allow you to set quotas for the size of a network share).

Are you able to create a new music store on the NAS in a separate network share and then rip to that?

Also sounds like the NAS may not be configured correctly which is critical when setting it up

Thanks gents. Problem 'solved'.

I tested the NAS, uploaded files etc, OK.

I checked quotas etc. on the NAS, OK.

I disabled the UPnP server on the NAS (lthough it had always worked with it on before).

Still did not solve the problem.

I went to the HDX (again) > system setup > musicstores and kept seeing an amber light, not green. By checking on the status it seemed to rescan the store and after about 20 minutes everything started working again.

I can only assume that the Naim Musicstore got confused in some way? Seems flaky to me. It would be good to understand better how the HDX manages this database of files.

Hi, glad it's all fixed now.

I can't vouch for the internal workings of the HDX, but from experience it does take a while for the Hdx to scan large music stores or network shares and is quite sensitive to a poor network while it is scanning. Perhaps, something went wrong with the network at start up? It might be worth checking the network if you continue with the problems.

using the Naim Desktop Client, ensure that the HDX doesn't have the stores "locked", and that the NAS takes priority over the internal drives
