New Kate Bush....! No, really.....

Much like the proverbial Corporation Omnibus... nothing for ages, then two almost at once...

Available to pre-order at all good... well, its on Amazon....

(thanks to the clever bots on Amazon, which told me about this, as I was checking if the new Tori Amos was out yet. It is - and the new KB will be in November..)

Ask the mods or report your post and ask that way.

Heard the first single from the album today (on 6 Music Cerys Mathews in case you can get it from iPlayer and want to listen). Seemed good, more of an oriental feel and less piano-led. I think she was warbling about Tibet.

Still barking, but interesting. Aerial is a high hurdle to aim at, here's hoping.

Just found it on YouTube, called Wild Man. On second listen, definitely barking. I think it is about the Yeti!

Track two is probably about Loch Ness...

BBC Music reviews 'Fifty Words for Snow'. The sublime and the ridiculous; good strapline!

I've heard 'Wild Man' a few times on the wireless and love it. My copy of the album is on pre-order.

Arrival (now they were a good band who had Friends and an elpee by ABBA), but in this case the arrival of 50 Words For Snow at chez moi.

I will be interested to read opinions of Kate's latest work.

I just had a look on Amazon, and note that Aerial is available at £209.99 new, or £110.00 s/h......

Well I was never a KB fan really, but Aerial (especially CD2) remains a frequently played CD at home that we both really enjoy. The album has its loopy moments but generally is both original and interesting.

Not sure I'd pay £100 for it though-I presume that is for the vinyl?

As for 50 Words, I'm waiting for my copy but listening to it stream at NPR the last few days I'd say 'promising' if not really grabbed me yet. Intriguing, subtle and more low key than aerial it seems. Check out the First Listen page at NPR if you want to hear it in full for a few more days.

I have a feeling lots of critics are a 'certain age', (ie like me) they find it hard to forget our drooling adolescent selves when reviewing her now! When I grew up I wanted to be Peter Gabriel-how on earth did he sell her the idea for that 'Don't Give Up' video; 'Look Kate, lets just cling on to each other really tightly for the duration of the whole song...'.

One thing that radiates from Aerial is a sense of domestic and maternal happiness. I cannot think of anything comparable thematically and that is truly refreshing.

Yesterday I got a mail from hdtracks with a high res version of the album. Interesting and with a 10 pct discount available for about 15 dollars.

Well,

I have just played the double 180g vinyl album for the first time.

Two nice bits of black stuff and both are very good SQ.

Was this album worth the wait?

Imo No.

Could i live without it in my collection?

Yes i could.

Will it get much play?

Not as much as her others.

Dont get me wrong,

I have been a massive fan of Kates work even before she put her first record out..

But this is all to deep with no fun or boogie factor.

Give me Red Shoes any day of the week.

Stu.

She is on BBC R2 Steve Wright show in the next hour

Might get to hear a track or two

Posted on: 23 November 2011 by Gale 401

Just turned Steve on.

Some bloke called Michael Ball on talking about his dvd and his part in the Sweeny (Get the car George) Todd stage show.???

Next up Kenneth Branagh and then Reginald D Hunter.

Nothing on the BBC RADIO 2 Site about Kate being on the show??

I was sure I heard she was on

There was a short cut earlier where she was speaking about the loss of albums

Then someone said she was on later,  maybe they meant a track

Oh well

Note to self:  more lunch less liquid

Mike,

She does not do live PR tv or radio.Has not for years.

I think the world and his wife would of known if she was going on any Radio or TV show.

PS,

Hows your knees after the op?

Stu

Posted on: 23 November 2011 by Mike-B

Hi Stu,  thanks for asking about the knees (its just one knee)

Actually its a half knee replacement called the "Oxford" knee. It fixes the common problem when the inside half of the knee cartilage gets worn through.   Bandy legged readers beware, it'll get you too one day.

Now I have titanium & super-lubricated polyethylene bearing, complete with part numbered replacements parts.

Its 2 weeks since the operation & I am in training to recover the damaged muscles & get fit again.
If it goes to schedule I should be more or less fit in 6 months,  but training must continue for 1 more year maybe longer to keep it that way.    The other knee gets done in 12 months.
Problem now is no driving until middle December (thats really bad for me)  I feel trapped like a captured animal. I get taken out by my nurse, pity she won't wear the 6 inch heels fishnet tights & crispy linen skirt.
Posted on: 23 November 2011 by Gale 401

Hope it goes well man.

Kate had her Hip/second one on same leg done 6 weeks ago.

Still training,as you call it.

Why do they name these things after towns of citys?

She had a Burmingham on her other leg.

Thats failed after less 10 years.

Google Johnson and Johnson .

Load of shit parts.

 Amstrad had nothing on them..

Anyway sorry to go off thread Guys.

Stu.

Cheers for that Nic.

Have you been down/over to see Diccus of late?

Without overdoing the snow metaphor I'm still trying to decide if this album is cool and mysterious or wet and irritating. I'm stuck at the roundabout with wheels spinning waiting for the gritter....

(Stu-re Birmingham hips, I'd blame the system for licensing medial devices and the surgeons all too keen to use novel devices without a core of decent evidence about longer term effects. Mostly for private patients..)

Kate was interviewed by John Wilson for R4's Front Row on tuesday. Available on listen again.

What's with the tonal balance of the recording? As with 'Director's Cut' it's like the treble has been wound all the way down. Kate allegedly doesn't like the sound of cymbals. They are certainly barely audible.

The recording sounds tonally very dull to me.

Musically; it's either seasonally dark, introspective and interesting or a right load of pretentious old twaddle. I need to hear it some more.

John.
