Opeth - Heritage

I think that this is Opeth's best album to date. Does anybody else have this album if so what do you think of it.

I have been playing it non stop on my travels this week. Nice and proggy. One of those albums that takes a while to know, so a plus for me.

Going to play it play it in a minute on the big rig. Steve Wilson tomorrow, box set of Dark Side of the Moon Sunday and Steve Hackett Monday. A nice musical week

Damnation is a great album I am glad that Opeth have taken the decision to do away with the growling vocal style for the Heritage album as they did with Damnation. I tried to get into the other albums but could not live with the growls, great musicianship though.

Have not been tempted this time to buy the Pink Floyd remasters as over the years I must have every reissue that they have put out. I would be interested to know if the remasters this time are yet another improvement on the past ones. If they are then I might be tempted again.

Just listening all the way through for the first time, apart from in the car on the way back form Streetlight.

Self indulgent, slightly pompous, completely derivative - I love it.

Really impressed me. It does remind me of early 1970s prog though but in a good way.

This album is simply awesome. I like the direction which Opeth has taken. No growling anymore and more influence from 70's progressive rock. Watershed was already much easier album than earlier Opeth albums (if you don't count Damnation) and also one of my favorites. I also love the fact that Steven WIlson did the mixing on the album. Porcupine Tree is my favorite band. Heritage sounds awesome and fresh. No signs of compression or other modern problems of record industry.

It is a strange one for me. I quite like where they are with this album. Only had one listen it passed first test ie I listened ALL the way through! I see me buying this at some time.

An excellent album, once more. How they manage to release so many great albums at such a rate is quite impressive. Also, listening to Heritage finally made me realize how such a great album Damnation is, too. Thanks Floid the the heads up, as I tend not to follow the albums release schedule very carefully

OdS,

IMO you can only class two of there albums as being good/great.

Damnation and Heritage,

And i also think Heritage has been done the way it has because of Steven Wilson production and the sales of Damnation.

Damnation showed they didnt have to Growl and Scream.

It also let there playing shine on through.

Well, until listening to Heritage I thought that Damnation was the album I liked the least, while Blackwater Park, Ghost Reveries and Watershed were among my favorites. Now, I see things differently as Heritage, in my view, is more than another great album from Opeth. Indeed, coming from this band, it also represents a new musical experience to me and I'd certainly be pleased to see it last for a few more albums.

Am new to Opeth, and glad I started with Heritage.  Very strong album -- enjoyed each and every song.  Will definitely be working my way backwards through their catalog.

PS - Love the 3D CD cover!

Just listened to Heritage on Spotify, and very good it is too.

It played on through Blackwater Park, but I stopped it after a few tracks much to black and doom metal for me.

I have Damnation and Watershed, they don't get played too often but at least they stay on the CDP all the way through.

Shortly: at first I hated it, then I started to like it and now I love it. Cool "tribute" to Ã…kerfeltd's musical influences. One can easily pick up Deep Purple, King Crimson etc. Love the sounds as well. I still wish Opeth would make also new material with death metal elements, but I hardly believe it would happen. Watershed was clearly an omen.

Bought the album based on this thread, have to say I really like it, there are some excellent tracks and for a "metal" album I find it really well recorded. Thanks for the recommendation.
