The New Floyd Discovery CD Box Set?

Posted by: Gale 401 on 30 September 2011

A mate of mine has just gone with his family to the south of France for 10 days.

He has left his set with me to play with.

I must say i am loving Animals and the Final Cut.

Going to try the Wall next.

Does anyone else like this set of remasters??

Waiting for verdict before investing - I only want to buy if they sound better - once ripped it would be unlikely I would look at the packaging again......

I take it you are impressed?

Thanks
Gary
Ps - nice friend to have!

Cheers Stu, I am very jelous indeed!
I know there has been a lot of bad press about the cost and need for this reissue set but it has certainly got me listened to some great albums again.

Enjoy and give us all your verdict after a good listening session.

Cheers

Adrian,

just play half of the original CD in the 555 then stick the new one in.

Let us know what you think??

Even the CD555 will only play one side of a CD....

Gary,

I have just had a look and seen who is doing the show on Monday.

Record Producers.

I wont be listening,I cant stand to even be in the same room as Steve Levine let alone listen to him on the radio.

I remeber when he used to work on the markets selling like Del Boy,but not as good or as funny.

My best mates dad got him a job at CBS studios in London.

He got hold of Boy George and nicked free studio time and got the sack.

The rest as they say is history.

I still dont like the prat.

I  have just heard Ricks solo of Us And Them.

A wonderful bit of music that made the hairs on my whole body stand up and the the G bumps are just going down on my arms as i post this.

Bought Animals and Dark Side.. on Cds reason beeing,  I save my  original vinyl on my LP12 for those special moments. The boys have done alright and I'm sure one of them won't need my dosh to fill up the tank in his new red italian motor. I will buy a new CD when they get their arses back to the studio, forget their  differences  and release new material. "Comfortably Numb"!!!!!!!!!!

Fascinating listening to the multitracks! on Radio 2  earlier tonight!
I tried to Record it on Sky,but the manual record does not seem to work!
I can't set the Time for Start or End of programme. anyone have a clue how to do it?

Yes, I agree this was potentially very interesting if only they had let us listen to the rediscovered tracks for any length of time instead of continually talking over them!

Hmmm...Decided to source the original 'non-remastered' 1st cd releases instead and just aquired a Japanese DSOTM live 1974 BBC which includes the 'Echoes' encore.  I hope it retains more of the 70's dry 'live' sound than the reverbed-up 2011....

I have bought DSOTM, Wall & Wish.... so far sound fabulous to my ears. Comfortably Numb stands out. Time takes me back to those herbal student moments of the 70's

Ok, I have a guest round (FixedWheel) for a night of Floyd A/B ing, originals vs new Immersion box set. Well initial conclusions are that the new ones are "fabulous". I have to say Wall and Animals are definitely better all round.......

I'd be very interested to know the sonic differences between the original (cd version) and the new remasters. I'm not too interested in all the extras but would certainly try a DTOTM and WYWH along with TW if the difference was significant (as the Beatles remasters certainly were)

Listening right now to DSOTM (Experience Edition), disc 2 -- Live at The Empire Pool, Wembly, London, 1974.  This is a superb live recording.  Great detail, and amazing dynamic range.  They named this package well!

Can only imagine how much fun it would have been to attend.  Anyone forum members keep their ticket stub?  :-)

SJB, I am never that good at describing sonic differences between remasterings as I tend just to listen to the music and the tune. However, I do think these remasterings are a good step forward as did John last night. I found them cleaner, a little warmer, fuller and less harsh. They are now my go to Floyd albums. John has ordered the vinyls on the back of our listening, so I reckon they are worth a few euros of your cash.

Looks like the reviews are pretty favourable. I think I'll pass on the immersion sets - too expensive and I am not that interested in the packaging etc. In addition I don't have a good av set up so the blue ray / DVD are not that helpful. I think the experience sets look the way to go as and when released individually.

Didnt have a ticket for that gig to keep.
I still have my ticket and prog from the Animals Wembley Pool concert in 1977.

I would of loved them to have put that concert out on Vinyl/CD/DVD?
