Powerline in NVi

Posted by: sundar on 01 October 2011

Hi everyone
I have used this machine for years
Recently went back for display change and fixing optical connection  @150 pounds . Works well and despite flaws and no upgrade possibility we love the picture and sound
Has anyone used powerline on this
Is it worthwhile
Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Try at your own risk! It really smooths out the n-Vi's audio performance, while adding a bit of sparkle on top.

Hi Sundar,

The n-Vi, despite a few flaws is an excellent machine. I've had mine for the last 6 years and apart from a display change its been reliable and picture and sound is great.

I'm sure a Powerline would work well on the n-Vi but i've found with mine that it's not too particular where its plugged in and the cost of a powerline on the n-Vi could fund an upgrade elsewhere (PSC on the 202 ?)

One tweak worth doing on the n-Vi is to disable the front amplifiers (via menu setting) if you've not already done so. By the rest of your system i take it that the n-Vi is used with the 202 in AV bypass mode so you aren't using two of the n-Vi amplifier channels ?

Cheers

James

Thanks for your replies James recently I have decoupled my 202/200 to a different room with ndac/xps2with mac mini with young hiface with iTunes also sb touch for spotify. I am happy with this and only nvi driving the home cinema speakers in a different room with apple tv and ps3. So I have nowhere to go except a powerline on nvi I might try a borrowed one. Thanks for suggestions I will update my profile Sundar

I tried on my NVI. The benefit is audible: more linearity deeper and  controlled bass transparent high frequency, the only problem is that power line is very much expensive and that it is more audible on the other naim products (as AV2 that I own on this moment). Looking at the actual value of NVI probably the best way is to find it s/h

Hi Alesandro I have been using for a few weeks and I agree with you it made a difference noticed by regular friends who were searching for new boxes in the room! I have separate spur into the room even then powerline was good upgrade as I have nothing else to add apart from a power amp which I found made the system slightly out of balance Regards Sundar
