Artist Info on Compilation Albums

Anyone any idea how to get this info into the system for discs ripped on a Unitiserve??

This is not public information from AMG, except if stated in some reviews, or if a work is under Trevor Ware's own name.

I like the comment fields for things like this.  There are a few artists that I want to note as playing on an album without overtly entering their name in the artist tag in parentheses or something.

An example would be Joey Baron.  He plays all over the place and rarely as the album artist.  But I will buy ANYTHING he plays drums on.  So when I rip a CD I enter his name into comments for searching later.

Another good example is an artist that goes by several names such as Luke Vibert.  I used to enter artist tags such as:

Luke Vibert

Luke Vibert - Plug

Luke Vibert - Wagon Christ

Luke Vibert - Karrier District

Now I simply enter his name into comments and include those in searches.

Recently, J River made a few tags as "lists" which is sweet.  It makes all of the above a moot point.

I agree with your solution Patrick, this what I do too. I don't use comments though.

Of course I understand that it is not necessary for many people.

I find all this a bit tedious. This was not difficult for me to come up with a naming scheme, but it might be for others. Like I said, the information is available, there must be a better way to use it.

I must dig a bit into Naim's Solution with their Extended Music Database and how far they go with the AMG data they license, and try to compare with other solutions (dbPoweramp/Asset with their PerfectMeta feature for instance, though screen captures don't look promising at first: still basic info, be it more correct).

Anyway a solution for the "digital cover sheet" is still to be invented methinks. Apps are a try, but it's not standardized.

Subject of another post maybe. Enough hijacking (apologies heihei).

ATB and thanks for your feedback

Maurice

PS: I like the "Easy Zorn" playlist. Is there a "Zorn for grown ups" as well ? A bit in the middle, I find Electric Masada amazing. Hardest rocking jazz ensemble ever !

Google "tuneglue".  Sweet.

@Patrick, yes seen Tuneglue before, it looks very similar to Discovr.

I think the "better way" will rely on using a legit media player that can display this information in a concise, meaningful fashion.  For example, the Theater View (info page) can list whatever tags you want in any order.

PS - "Zorn for Grown-ups" playlist is achieved by either "SHuffle All" or a Play Doctor session with "No Variety"

also with J River you can embed links to anything on the toolbar.  Those might be Wiki, YouTube, Images (Google), AMG, etc....  When you click on them they open within the program and auto search for whatever is playing/highlighted.

Very nice feature.

Among other things, yes. But smart searching and browsing is essential.

Fine features this JRMC, I reckon. Thanks.
