N-stream it has to get better.???

Posted by: Christopher Oakes on 12 October 2011

I bought my first Naim equipment this year, uniti, nap200 and powerline and am really pleased with the quality.  However I'm really disappointed with the n stream app. I find it often doesnt respond to my uniti.  And particularly the internet radio is a nightmare to use, finding stations is like looking for needles in a haystack. Why can't you simply type a search to search for an artist or podcast like on the tuneup app?

The app store user reviews really sum this up with some damning scores.  Is there any plans for Naim to improve this, I notice the last update was in May?

What do other users think of N Stream???

Not perfect but works well with Vortexbox and comparisons with Apple Remote aside I'm getting to quite like it. Tog

I must admit I'm starting to like it. System automation is neat, controlling the NDX is simple and with Playback or Majestic serving, it's quick and responsive. I still think the UPnP side lets it down. Lack of playlist generation and clunky operation is poor compared to the Linn offerings.

if every one had the sono app and a good piece of electronics like naim, life would be simple/    plugplayer/songbook are ok

I'm still waiting for world peace, dancing girls and free beer. On a positive note, nStream is definitely faster on my iPhone 4 with IOS5 Tog

You have the option of the web server for setting up you I-radio. It has search facility, you have your computer keyboard...

Sweet mother of... This might be worth a smile!

Does it still take a week or so for Apple to clear new submissions?

I'm with Allen, I can't understand the secrecy, after all we are talking about an upgrade to a tiny free downloadable software application that either runs on a smart phone or a tablet computer... The approach, especially after having put the enigmatic sticky on the forum just serves to frustrate, rather than serve any purpose, ie there is no regulatory reason why details of a forthcoming software fix or upgrade needs to be kept secret so why antagonise the customer base? Must admit scratching my head on this approach to customer relationship management.

The safe bet is SuperUniti and ND5 XS compatibility, among other things–since these use a different streaming module (according to other posts on this Forum), it makes sense (at least to me) that any new functionality is tested against this first.

Walking around RMAF at the moment, there are very few ( but > 0 ) manufacturers that provide any sort of external preamp or source transport control from a UPnP-focused control app.

I think the market for multiple deprecates is a diminishing one - making a streamer/preamp/power unit that can be upgraded with an external stereo/mono block power amp if necessary is the way forward. In my case - two boxes will do fine - but if a home demo of the SuperUniti indicates that it sounds as good as the my Uniti/200 combo I would be quite happy with one box to go with a pair of B&W PM1s.
