Spooks is just incredible

Posted by: Jonathan Gorse on 16 October 2011

I have to confess that I'm not much of a TV watcher normally but the latest series of Spooks just keeps getting better and better.  Just as I think they couldn't possibly top the last episode they come up with something that scales new heights.  I was a latecomer to the show and only started tuning in around a couple of years ago but I am gutted that the best drama series I have ever seen is set to end with the current series.

Is anyone else similarly addicted?  I guess the only comfort is that I can at least buy all the previous series now and catch up on what I have missed.  Thank-goodness for DVD!

Anyone else similarly addicted??

Gave up after the second series , I really get piised off when they keep killing off the cast.

Yep, I'm a fan and equally annoyed its all coming to an end. I have seen every episode twice. A good deal of it is totally implausible but the one about the Russian nuclear sub was er...spookily close to actual events which occurred after the episode was aired. I particularly like the way the US is portrayed. What with new series for House MD and Dexter on at the moment I feel like I am in TV heaven. House is seriously good.

Is there anything else worth watching in TV land at the moment?

Try comparing the sledgehammer narrative style of "Spooks" with the more subtle "Hidden".

"Spooks" is only watchable to have a chuckle at its one dimensional plotting, cardboard characterisation and ridiculously phoney foreign accents.

Not quite "Edge of Darkness"

It is indeed "incredible": so far-fetched that any relation to the real world is long gone. That said, I do still enjoy it.

Strike Back Project Dawn has been very watchable.

I love Spooks too. Great entertainment & who gives a fig whether it's subtle or not?

I've recorded 'Hidden" & hopefully get round to watching it soon.

The most incredible thing about Spooks is not the plots so much (I'm happy to suspend disbelief) but the fact that episode after episode we see Mi5 operatives get from one side of London to the other in under 6 minutes. Truly incredible.

Clearly, you've not been driving in London since the introduction of the congestion charge Mr Sniper!

Is Ilya Gavrik half meercat?

The Sweeney were doing that in the mid '70s

But they had a MKII

The only gripe I have with the current series is the trailer for the upcoming episode; in common with many many other shows it just reveals too much. I'd much prefer a cliffhanger ending and be left to my own imagination.

Is it me?

Richard,

I agree. I have just watched the latest episode which I thought was brilliant but the trailer was way too much information.

Elena Meerkat intrigued me. I kept thinking I had seen her before and Chariots of Fire popped into my mind so I checked and sure enough the same actress albeit 30 years older - she was astonishingly lovely 30 years ago.

I think the actor who plays the Home Sec does a very good job as does she who plays Ruth Evershed. Will Ruth become Lady Pearce and live happily ever after on the Suffolk coast? Can't wait for Sunday.

Not heard of 'Hidden' I will check it out.

I agree, Richard, so I always turn off when the screen fades to black and white at the end of each episode.

What the BBC should really do is to show each series complete, without breaks or titles, over the course of an evening.

Ruth as a wife and Ros as mistress? What a good way to end things

Simples!

I have to confess to having something of a thing for Ros Myers/Hermione Norris when she was in Spooks!

What intrigues me is that the next episode preview showed Eurofighter Typhoons doing something - but I can't imagine what and am rather intrigued to find out.

Good to hear there are some closet Spooks fans here and will definately check out the other recommendations.

I currently own one series of Spooks on DVD but am wondering whether to buy the series gradually over the coming months to catch up on what I have missed.  I don't want to do that however if the BBC are about to launch a complete series boxset with loads of extras after the series ends.  Anybody heard anything about such a boxset coming out??

I didn't find Ros physically attractive at all but I liked her character in the series. The new girl on the grid scrubs up rather well but I doubt all that hair and those high heels are optimal for the rough and tumble of the job.

Ros Myers was very irrititating I thought but Oh Keeley...!

Just watched the final episode so I'm feeling slightly bereft. I do hope the BBC plans some 'specials' in the future. If I lived in the UK I would refuse to pay my tv license until the series was reinstated. I thought Tom reappearing albeit for only a second was a stroke of genius.
