Foobar and Asset

Posted by: meaculpa on 30 October 2011

Hi,

I have a NAS running Twonky and as all files are WAV, the metadata is not good.  I have played with Asset after advice from the forum and the results have been excellent.

Therefore I have bought a dedicated netbook to run Asset on.  This is connected by Ethernet cable to my network.  I have installed Foobar to play with, and while I can get it too add Files, Folders and Locations from the network, it is "seeing" this via Twonky and hence no metadata.  I cannot see the Asset server, either under Computer or Network in the Foobar widescreen, however if I go to the Windows menu I can see Asset listed as a Media player and my n-stream can also see it.

Is there a way to force Foobar to look at the Asset server?

Many thanks in advance,

Andrew

Hi Andrew -

I'm pretty sure that you need to add a plug-in to foobar for it act as a UPnP renderer.

Try googling "foo_upnp".

Good luck!

Yes, you definitely need the UPnP plug-in, so download that if you haven't already, and add it to the components folder on your copy of foobar; then restart the program. By the way, I have used foobar with asset but on my network I found it unstable. I'd be interested to know then how you get on. Thanks!

Hook,

Thank you. Found foo_upnp on site and downloaded.  Managed to get it added as a component, and now have upnp browser and controller functions.  I can access Asset now, although only one item at a time, unlike the Folder function which seems to let you add your whole library.

Not sure about the stability Nagoya, but will play with it and see.

Many thanks,

Andrew
