Hard Drive Price Increase

Posted by: Frizzlefry on 31 October 2011

Anybody noticed the price increase?

Flooding in Tailand has brought a halt to production of parts used in HDs, with netgear reporting a trade cost increase to them of 200%. I noticed that a drive i bought 2 weeks ago for £60, now sells for £150 on a water named retail sight. No sign of a halt in rises till the new year, has been reported.

Back to the black stuff anyone?

Whats up fear monger?  Maybe if you bought locally rather than online you wouldn't be so worried.  I am sure the big box stores have plenty in reserve.  No change in price in my parts.

Can't see any price hike in the Amazon.

I hope things improve for people in Thailand.

AMAZON PRICES SHOT UP

From what to what - my 2TB back-up drive was still the same when I last looked

I bought 3 x 2tb Seagate drives a few months ago from Amazon for £55 each (who weren't the cheapest but I have prime so worked out cheaper inc delivery), the same drives from Amazon are now between £142 - £198.90 depending on supplier.

The lesson here is to NOT buy from Amazon.
