Just a little Sunday afternoon recommendation for you all......

My dealer recommended David Sylvian too me - whilst I was familiar with Japan I had not heard any of his solo work.

Got a box set of Sylvian Cd's 'Weatherbox' from the 90's....worth a few bob now I notice and quite rightly so, It is excellent musically and sonically.
Try ' Rain Tree Crow' also. G
Hi Gary,
My favourite David Sylvian relase is - Nine Horses: Snow Borne Sorrow (worth searching for a cheaper price)
I would also recommend under David's own name - Brilliant Trees; Dead Bees On A Cake and Damage (which is basically King Crimson, in soundscape mode, with David Singing)

I love this song with its fourth world soundscapes. He gets a little more experimental as the years go by, which is fine by me. Thanks!
Hi Gary
I also have a soft spot for Brilliant Trees and Nine Horses.
Some lovely playing on BT from the likes of Danny Thompson and Kenny Wheeler.
If you are feeling really adventurous try Manafon.
I believe DS is also doing some live dates soon.
cheers

'Secret of the Beehive' is probably my favourite of his solo work. All of 'Weatherbox' is quite excellent, as are some later releases.
His collaboration with Robert Fripp in the early 90's was very good too, producing a studio and live album.
His music in the last decade has divided fans, it has become very minimal and personal. Some love it, but I find it too dark and abstract.
As Graham said he is touring next year, but again, his recent live performances have divided fans. Although I really enjoyed many of his earlier tours, the last time I saw him was dull. I won't be tempted by next year's tour, but for those interested I think the Albert Hall in London is one of the venues.
All the best.

Gary,
I am with your Dealer and Jamie 100% .
This is my fave DS album on CD or vinyl.
Its miles ahead of his other works for music words and emotion imo.
Not that taken with his last three albums though..
I bought his whole back cat on CD for around £1.50 each used but in mint condition two years ago from amazon seller zoverstocks.

I fell in love with the David Sylvian's work during my first year at University. I'd listen to 'Gone To Earth' for hours. It was so different to what was going on with music at the time.
I have all his work par one (an Art Installation album) and he rarely disappoints (Blemish is hard going though!). Looking forward to The Royal Albert Hall next year.
Regards
Neil
