nVi back from servicing, but......

Posted by: Consciousmess on 13 November 2011

Hi all,

My nVi has just returned from a servicing and an update from the Naim factory.  The display is much brighter and I also noticed that I could name the sources as opposed to having them being Digital 1, Digital 2 and so on.  That is brilliant, but now the nVi won't lock on to any digital signal!!!

What does the forum advise me to do?  The local retailer was just my go-between and simply charged the £20 return postage, but I have paid the servicing work done, the receipt tells me it was checked, but there is still no locking on to the source.

It did work briefly, yesterday after I pcked it up from the retailer and slotted it into my system again, but now it won't lock on.

Is there any freeware update that I can install on the nVi?

Many thanks,

Jon

Hi Jon,

It should have the latest firmware. I take it you've powered it off via the power switch on the back panel - powering off by the power button on the front panel doesn't always provide a decent reset.

I'd check the firmware version against the details in the FAQ section of this forum ("AV product firmware update information 2011").

I bought my N-VI used and had issues (different to your problem) despite it having been back for similar treatment to yours, Naim kindly emailed me a firmware upgrade that resolved the problem.  It was easy to apply, you just had to burn the ISO image to a CD and load the disk,

I recall others having some issues with locking and that there is a semi hidden menu that allows parameters to be changed, maybe do a search on the forum for this?

Your display has been replaced, so you have the latest firmware. If the hard reset doesn't work, call Naim, they can chech in the service menu if something is wrongly set.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the advice as the "hard boot" worked (turning the nVi off at the back on the switch).

Many thanks for that.  Can I also ask, how do I turn off the inner amp for the front two speakers (so I can improve the sound quality)?  I have a 282 and 250.2 for that.

Thanks again.

Set front speakers to Small Ext or Large Ext (whichever is appropriate), as opposed to Small or Large.

Incidentally, had my n-Vi for 5 years, have always updated firmware whenever new releases came along, but from day 1 you can name ANY input, including setting any input to OFF so as to minimise the amount of time cycling through inputs (using the iINOUT button on the remote)  to which you have nothing connected.

You can also turn OFF the video outputs that aren't in use, so as to improve video quality ( in setup mode all video outputs are enabled, just in playback of discs that the OFF outputs won't offer a picture).

You'll find this all in the manual!
