Smiths Complete

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 13 November 2011

I have just discovered that there is a box set of the 8 'proper' albums that have been remastered. My favourite Smiths album Hatfull of Hollow always sounded distinctly tinny, so I thought it worth a punt. So many remasters sound different but not really much better so let's hope this one is different, because it's us (them).

Nigel,

I have not heard the new mega vinyl LP/45 single/CD/DVD box set yet.

But hope too very soon?

A good mate of mine has bought two of them.

Adrian picked one set up for him this weekend from one of his local record shops for local people. £265.99 as one of the two sets he bought from amazon had to go back because of the damage to the box and they didnt have any more.

Worth a punt just for the CD collection set if they are a fave band? imo.

Now you are all olive again, you should go retro and get a record player again.

Stu

£265 is a little beyond me! My speakers cost less! The Cd set is a much more reasonable £30 on Amazon, so will have to suffice. They are still my favourite band after all these years. It's scary to reflect how long ago 1983 was; I remember the first time I saw them at Leicester Poly like it was yesterday.

This arrived today, and sounds pretty good on first listening, albeit maybe a little smooth. The CDs come in replica sleeves, with inners that you can extract the discs from without scratching them, which is so much nicer than horrible jewel cases. All in all, seems like a good package.

Nigel,

Enjoy them man.

It looks like they are going to play together next year.

Glastonbury though.

Don't think there is a glastonbury next year - would be great if they played together again though...

Just recieved my CD pack today, belated christmas present, £30 for 8 albums is an absolute bargain,, The box set itself is very well put together with all the origional album details included such as the poster for Rank and the sleeve sticker on the queen is dead,, its the little things that make the difference. though do need better glasses for some of the print!

Only problem is with  which album  to start with?  so i have  just played my favourite tracks from each,, and first impressions they sound fantastic, the recordings changes are subltle  more detailed , guitars brighter overall , bass lines just seem better pronounced in the mx .but so far absolutley great,

for any Smiths fan this is a bargain cd set ,,,,,,,,,, get your daffodils at the ready

I have to agree. The CD box set was my best Xmas present. A must for any fan. Johnny Marr has done a good job with the remastering.

its a piece of editorial so i presume i can post it(?)

otherwise google - photos of the smiths

not sure what the rules are here!

I was commenting on the remastered albums!  It was obviously a long careful and well executed process and the end result is far better the the originals. Some of the best of albums were quite poor. The Smiths were just magnificent live and no recording really captures them that well. At least these are still vibrant but "smoother"

That is absolutely fantastic!  You are also a Manchester legend(!)
Posted on: 06 January 2012 by sjw

no it's the musicians are the legends...........

At the time there was so much talent in Manchester and I was lucky to be there

Out of the blue I've just had a long chat with vini from  the Durutti column- beautiful music

Can't believe its 26 years ago since i was first in Salford.....a cold dark day in december!
