Top 100

Posted by: floid on 19 November 2011

I think everybody has a list of 100 albums that you consider you're favourite's so here's a thread devoted to just that. Every album I put on here will be an album that I could not live without. They will be in no particular order but so we can follow it every album will have a number beside it. Comments would be good, maybe they are yours as well. Let's see how it goes.

Going through my record collection again eh ....

All good choices - only one I'm not familiar with is the Otis (haven't got any records by OR, but something I need to put right).

Good choice of Eddi Reader: I'm sure she'd be overlooked in some top 100s. Loreena, Van and Carole somehow have to be in there as they are just great records even if I do prefer Astral Weeks to Moondance (but both are very fine albums).

Exodus is a great album - interestingly AMG only gives 4.5 stars and reserves 5 stars for some of his other output; a view I found surprising as I'd have given them all 5 stars.

All the best, Guy

36 Manfred Manns Earth Band - The Roaring Silence. Vocalist Chris Thompson......What a voice.

Posted on: 07 December 2011 by Guido Fawkes

What a great band too ... through Chapter One, Two and Three and on to the Earth Band, Manfred Sepse Lubowitz has always put together a great band. We know he didn't always care for the hit singles of the 60s like My Name Is Jack and Fox On the Run, but I loved those records. His Earth Band were truly tremendous though. Some say they Blinded By The Light, but I'd say they were on The Road To Babylon. Whatever Questions their critics posed they had the answers and kept firmly on This Side of Paradise. All this and a cover of Singing The Dolphin Through which did great things for Mike Heron's post Incredible String Band Reputation. [Mike Heron now there was a smiling man with a bad reputation and he gave The Who one of their finest recorded moments]
