Has anyone had their NDX upgraded?
Posted by: Slioch on 23 November 2011
Any opinions (beyond the 24/192 support)? Improvement/same/whatever?
I bought mine after the middle of the year so - if I read the announcement correctly I should be able to get this done gratis before the end of December. I did call my local dealer (UK) but they seem to still be waiting for info from Naim? So I was wondering whether it was worth pursuing?
Just been quoted £260 to get mine updated, bought it in May, seriously unhappy about the whole affair. Spent the best part of £10k on Naim stuff in the last 12 months, nice to see loyal customers treated so well.
Don't see you have any choice other than to update if you want all the missing features promised on other threads.

How come Rich? Figures of £120 have been bandied around (for those who have to pay). Now I have decided to keep my NDX, I am still waiting for my quote.
That's the number quoted. I am in the UK, my dealer is saying £240 cost from Naim and then courier cost on top each way, which he has kindly discounted to £20 so £260 in total.
shocking price for such a small board/software
Does anyone know how much it will be to upgrade the unitiqute?

+1 - I'd like to know too
And the Uniti?
Re: UnitiQute
"Spoke to Mr Hopkins at HQ and it would appear that it is £250 if your dealer does the Qute board upgrade for you. Naim will be offering training (I don't know if this will cost the dealers) in the next month and thereafter. Some dealers may not offer to do the upgrade depending on their level of competence. If it goes to HQ then it is £350 + couriers etc. I believe. The £250, which was the initial figure I heard, is much more reasonable as a proportion of the initial price of the Qute. I'm assuming, maybe incorrectly, that this includes VAT - forgot to clarify, may ask again to be sure.
Regards
Neil"
I imagine the Uniti will be the same price as the Qute (or avoid by buying a SuperUniti ).
As regards the NDX, maybe the lower price will be when the dealer can do it for you (as above) rather than sending it to Salisbury.
Give HQ a ring if you want further clarification.
Neil
So nobody seems to have got this done yet - maybe its taking a bit longer to get this all set up....
It's certainly all a bit unclear to me.
I phoned my dealer a few weeks ago about the new board and he didn't know much about it, he did phone Naim and the board was ordered. Apperently the first batch of boards have all been used and we are waiting delivery from the second.
If it wasn't for the fact that I read these forums I wouldn't know anything about the free upgrade. Considering the premium that Naim charge for their equipment I think this is unacceptable.
I should be getting the full picture from HQ and posting here as soon as I have it.
Thanks, Richard,
That would do nicely as they (use to) say.....
The full picture on the update would be great. I hope HQ can also explain the apparent price difference between the board upgrade for the NDX and Uniti/Qute. Thanks!

seems poor costomer support, other companies inform and if it is an upgrade cost they indicate.
I hope Paul doesn't mind, but this is an email I received from him yesterday:
"Hi Neil
Thank you for your mail clearly we need to pick up the pace, I am sure all retailers have had the comms for all the upgrade possibilities for a few weeks now, maybe we did not communicate clearly enough on this issue.
Glad you are impressed with the superuniti, I will ask some questions about the current messages.
Thanks for your feedback
Paul Stephenson"
My initial email was about the lack of information at the dealers about the upgrades for all units.

When it turns up I'd appreciate your thoughts.
I got mine about two weeks early and being honest I'm not sure if the 192kHz support is worth it.

Agree with that.

Badlyread, that's a pretty badly written email by PS. Looks like he rushed it off and forgot and proper punctuation! Anyway, no problem, thank you for passing it on.
Sent on iPad! Not the easiest thing to type on.
Pick, pick, pick.
These updates are handled by distributors and we will probably each have our own policy. This is probably why there is still no clear picture on that. We are waiting for upgrade kits to do it at least once to know what we will charge.
For example in Canada we have decided to upgrade all NDX for free, but this is a political decision. We have not yet set any update prices.
One thing to note is the upgarde boards are not the same for NDX and for Uniti\Qute, hence the price difference.

For the record - I ordered the new boards - when I get them fitted (probably next week) - I'll let you know if I notice any difference.

Hi Richard,
I was wondering whether you'd managed to get a clarification from HQ......? (Beyond Paul's quoted email)
