Spurred from the latest release of Wish You Were Here.....

What an album, and probably my second favourite Floyd album, but here is a question to ask you all.......

Do you think record companies have many recordings of a band, such as Pink Floyd, so that for every anniversary they can release 'something' in order to milk the consumer to the maximum?  What I mean is, do you think the record company utilises its ownership rights and releases music from a band to extract as much money as possible - even after all the band members are dead?

A case to refer to is Michael Jackson.

Regards,

Jon

If there's money to be made they'll do it.

Yes

Some material that is put out after an artist is dies is quite dreadful and the artist themselves never wanted it released, but of course, as fans we'll buy it.

It's definitely a great album and we are really enjoying the 2011 remaster!

Yes, record companies have tons of 'outtakes,' never-released stuff, alternative versions, etc etc. They can't really milk us -- we cows have to walk up to the milking machines ourselves

That said, personally, I'm not very interested in owning all those outtakes etc.  They might be interesting to hear once, but that's it, and paying a lot of money for all those other versions...and the packaging....eh I opted for the more basic versions of the remasters.

Collectors and completists will buy almost any old dross/outtakes/bootlegs etc, so there is always a market for this stuff.
