I have what I have been told is the first Superuniti in Canada. I'm replacing my Nait 5i with it, and adding it to my CDS3/XPS2. All are sitting on Fraims.
So far it sounds pretty good - have been able to get all of the functions to work - and the unit was warming up beautifully until a 6 hour power outage took it offline and set the entire system back to "cold". Ah - there goes another five weeks of warmup.
I'm quite excited about the SU - the extra 30 wpc are quite helpful and my speakers (Fidelity Acoustic RCM3s from Vancouver) are fantastically happy!
My wife is equally happy - and that's a good thing - because she can now stream her favourite radio stations with mostly "world music" to the big system instead of listening on her little portable Bose music link.
I do, however, have a couple of questions:
The remote doesn't work with my CDS3 - there's something about an RC5 cable/connection etc that I recall reading about that I might need - can anyone enlighten me?
USB3: it appears that the SU only supports USB2 as a USB3 stick shows up as "empty". Do I have a bad stick or is that correct? (It works elsewhere fine, so suspect lack of support.)
"Input initialising....": this is the bad one. It seems that if I change router settings, the SU requires a cold restart (ie power cycle) to reset this. I changed WiFi channels and it hung e.g. (I just can't get ethernet to it, sadly. At least not in this house.)
UPnP: Just tested to see if it would work with my WD Live Hub which is on my 'entertainment' network for TV and movies, and it works fine (surprise!). I'm trying to figure out a topology for my network that would allow me to have the WD wired to the SU - which means getting rid of the WiFi on the SU as it can't run with both connected (why not? Other units do.). Then I'd just use WiFi for nstream control. Any thoughts about how that might work?
Love the Naim sound - I've had all-Naim systems for years now, starting with a little Nait 2. Separates would be nice, but the pocketbook just wouldn't be happy about that. I've been a lurker on the forums for a long time just absorbing info. Thanks to all who post here -- you are an amazing support group!!

Hi TaxBuster,
Pleased to have met you last Thursday.
You do not need the SU to be WiFi for N-Stream to work. So you can hard-wire both your SU and WD to your router\switch and set WIFI on your router just for control, and this is the best way to do it.
For CD3, you need to connect a 1\8 jack to RCA cable between CDS3 and SU. Then go to the menu and activate automation for CD player et voila, you'll be able to control your Cd player even from your I-Pad. See section 4.11 p15 on your user manual.

And for other Canadians waiting for their SuperUniti, be patient they are coming...
ND5XS have arrived last Friday, so we are shipping today.

TB,
I listened to the SU in Vancouver about 10 days ago. Seems to be an excellent item, but beyond my means. I hope it does the job for you.
I'm likely going to step in with a UnitiQute- the whole streaming / digital thing is something I'm just starting to learn about. Side-stepping from a Nait3, rather than stepping up, perhaps.
Interesting that you have the Fidelity Acoustic loudspeakers. I heard them with Philip a few years ago; I remember them as quite compelling.

Hi Manu,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not exactly sure what an ND5Xs is, but my guess is that it is a wired and wireless music streamer, but without a power amp. Presumably, it has a DAC that is better than the UnitiQute. Am I correct? If that is correct, a used nap200 might be the right power to add on.
I'm actually quite happy with the Nait 3; in fact, it is still a delight to me. I sort of wish for the good things that come with 'more' and 'better' power but I'm not changing because of any flaw with the Nait 3.
RE your second post:
A superuniti is just too rich for me; $5,900.00 or so is a lot of cash. I heard one here in Vancouver. Tempting but not something I can do now.

You are right, the ND5XS is a streamer, with a very good DAC, follow the link in another post to a review.
As you may know, your NAIT3 can be moded to add sockets to use an external amp so you can upgrade the amp\pre step by step. But you can keep it as is; as you say it is a very good amp and the ND5XS would be a perfect companion for all things digital.
You can look at all possibilities with John or Philip.

Damon, might be the same unit I've got at home here in Calgary.
The price of pretty much all Naim gear isn't for the faint of heat - for sure the SU is pricy. In my case I have a bit of gear to sell to offset some of the cost. Is it worth it? I think so - time will tell, but it's improved my CDS3 wonderfully, and gives me time to rip my collection into FLAC and to gather higher resolution tracks/albums as well.
The Fidelity Acoustic RCM3 speakers are amazing. I first heard them at the Gramophone in Edmonton (where I purchased them) running from a Supernait/Squeezebox/nDAC combo. Even though I brought them home to my little Nait 5i they performed superbly. They are clear and crisp, but with that "Naim sound" that is relaxed and simply musical. With the SU the sound is fuller, richer and just as relaxed. The sound stage is bigger and the push behind each note is noticeable from the extra 30 watts.
At $6K for the pair, they blew the socks off my old Oskar Heil Kitharas (another bit to sell....) and represent a value considerably higher than what I paid. They perform extremely well at all volume levels, and have an openness that is remarkable. Highly recommended (even though they are little known).

TB,
It all sounds like a real delight. Nice to hear your description of a 'bigger push' behind each note. Makes complete sense to me. Knowing Philip I can easily see that the FA speakers and Naim gear would be very complementary gear.
Anyhow, sounds like the SU went to a good home!
