A vinyl thread to help Thorsten/music lover out??
Posted by: Gale 401 on 30 November 2011
Thorsten,
I thought i would help you out man.
The post of yours a few days back saying you loved the SQ of this vinyl box set.
Got me thinking??
How can he love it?When its shite.
So as you live in Germany, Give yourself a treat, and buy one of the Sockfisch sampler vinyl albums.
Or any of the Chris Jones or SaraK vinyl on there.
You will then know what i am on about when it comes to SQ.
Best regards.
Stu..
Stu,
Led-Zepp the song remains the same -
what's the Classic 2xLP 200g version like for SQ?
...or any other Led-Zeppelin on Classic 200g, do they sound better?
Debs
Debs,
Julian is the person to ask about those.
He did mail me after hearing one saying it was good.
I stick to the originals on cd and vinyl.
Barry D was the man.
I do have the CD and vinyl box sets of mothershite and the song remains the shame.
Only bought the vinyl sets just to check.
Stu
Why do people keep on buying re-issues when the original recordings were absolute crap?
Tony,
Here is the thing.
Lots of the originals were not crap.
Stu
Any road up.
Try some StockFisch vinyl Thorsten.
There CDs are worth a look also,
If you are one on here that has ever tried them?
Give them ago.

Have to agree. Led Z recordings are not good, but the Classic Records do a good job making the best of the crap.

I have the Classic Records 200g Led Zep I, III and IV. Overall the SQ is not bad and far better than TSRTS box set. However, they aren't quite as good as the 1st issue original albums.

I have some original LZ albums: II, III, Runes, PG and the SQ is not bad at all.
I have original 1st pressings of LZ 1, 2, 3 and 4. I have listended to 220g of LZ 3,4 of the same albums and agree with Steve's comment. On the other hand, The song remains..., original pressing, .. is one of the worst recordings I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. Of course, some other crimes have been committed against audiophilia.
Tony
Hi Stu!
Thanks...I have one of the Stockfish albums and I know what you are talking about.
I had the original German pressing of TSRTS and what the heck, I like the new one (4xLP) better.
I have the Led Zep I,II,III, IV and Physical on classic 200gr and they sound fantastic.
This one:
But I donĀ“t really like the music THAT much...
And by the way, I would NEVER just buy a CD/Record just because it sounds "awesome"...
Maybe I should have said that I like the 4xLP box better than the 2xLP box of TSRTS...sorry, my bad.
Also dear Stu, you prefer the new pressing of Wish you were here (2011) and I prefer by 1000 miles my original A1/B3-UK-1st press AND my German 1C-064... over the new re-master.
So, ALL is relative.
And YES SIR(S), I will keep my beautiful TRANSROTOR Dark Star TT with the PSU Konstant 1 with my Ortofon Cartridge Valencia, because I LIKE IT.
The song remains..., original pressing, .. is one of the worst recordings I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. Of course, some other crimes have been committed against audiophilia.
Ditto. It would probably explain why the remasters of this album are also poor. You can't make a silk purse from a pigs ear.

Hmmm...agree to disagree...
The "original recordings" may be awesome, but the LP-production may have been ****ed up...
How do you know if the original recording was crap?
Take for example Black Sabbath - Vol. 4. I have the Swirl-Pressing and the new Rhino-pressing and here, IMHO the re-issue IS better.
Sometimes it can be that re-issues are better.
How can you not like this?
With the late great Chris Jones playing.
Or any of the Chris Jones solo albums?
The man played the Blues and died young because of Fags, English for smoking.

I have all the Classic Zeps and IMNSHO they are all very good, especially TSRTS. The only ones I've heard that are better SQ are my '70s Jap "Physical Graffiti" and "LZ 1" (my Jap "LZ4" is awful though )
But I think one can get hung up on obsessing about SQ - I've got 300-odd Zep boots and most of them are shite sound quality. But the music, as always, is magnificent. And don't forget, "LZ II" is full of distortion - that's the (intentional) way it was recorded.
K
Kevin,
Do you have the new Classic Vinyl recordings?
I will put money on you not having them after that post.
Stu.
