The 2012 F1 Championship thread.

Posted by: Tony Lockhart on 30 November 2011

Well, once Christmas is out of the way and we've all broken our resolutions, some of us will be counting the days til the first race. Will Bahrain be peaceful enough? Will Austin Tx have sorted itself out?

How many teams will decide they can't compete against Red Bull and concentrate on developing 2013's turbo 1.6 litre V6 engine?

Are there any rule changes for next year worth knowing about?

Just anounced that stewards did not accept all Red Bull's arguments but they did not contravene the rules as written.

It is likely that a rule clarification will be issued in the near future.

Well done Alonso , welcome back Jenson, Vettel resorts to cheating AGAIN.

IMO Moss, Andretti, and Villeneuve were all racers of the first rank; not just drivers, racers. Alonso has the same DNA. He is a racer. He doesn't know the word quit.

Vettel sent to 5th place.

Tony - what's there to apologise for?

How come Lewis Hamilton didn't get penalised when passing Rosberg off track in Bahrain?

It's all corrupt anyways.

Team orders, yes. Corrupt sport, hum!!, F1 i s a big sport for big boys. Did you see RB and AT side track interviews? Theses guys live for the sport. High stakes and no time for sentimentalities. After the race, they just sit down and have a cuppa. Businness as usual!

Hamilton (and Alonso)  were pushed off the track in Bahrain by Rosberg, Vettel chose to drive off the track to overtake.

Hamilton unlike Alonso had a large amount of his car along side the Mercedes, again unlike Vettel on Button.

Hey just for a change it looks like Red Bull have been cheating AGAIN.

Well done Lewis great pole, now convert it to a win.

As much as I don't like it, Red Bull are being very clever about how far to push their luck.

In other news, I see that Craig Pollock's Pure company has suspended development of their 1.6lt V6 turbo engine.

Nah, they are just testing the boudaries of the rules .

Nothing against Lewis to win (if it is not Kimi).

Damage limitation for Alonso, a big test for Hammy, and a chance for Grosjean to upset the applecart

I've better things to do, and no Sky lol, so I'll watch it all later.

It seems that my earlier prediction for the season was all wrong, interesting latter part coming though (hopefully).

Will Button win today?

Posted on: 02 September 2012 by BigH47

Yes.

Well done Button, perfect drive.

How long til Grosjean either badly hurts someone or is banned for life? Tick tick tick. Hamilton was more restrained than I'd have been.

I was watching BBC coverage, couldn't believe how delicately they were treading around who caused the accident on the commentary. How much more blatant can you get?! Time to hoof him out for a long spell not just one race. If Alonso's head had been squashed by that Lotus then he's dead, end of.

Posted on: 02 September 2012 by Mike-B

1 race ban, can't say much stronger than that without taking his licence away.

I also predict sooner or later for Maldonado - he got a 10 place grid reverse for his x2 misdemeanour's.

Jamie,

I thought the BBC coverage was bloody painful. They need people in the commentary box that will say it as they see it. If it's an obvious jump start, say so! You're not an Indycar commentator with commercial pressures hovvering over you! Or are you to matey with the drivers?

And as for Coulthard's grid walk..... why on earth bother? Most of the drivers must do a runner when they see him, and probably with the blessing of the sponsors on their baseball caps! He was, in my opinion, a buffoon in an F1 car, and is now looking well out of his depth with a mike in his hand.

Rant over, and only two weeks til the Goodwood Revival.

Martin B on Sky did NOT do the usual BBC PC thing, he said who was to blame , and he was right.

Many tweets that are correctly saying that more enforcement of the rules should be used in the lower formulas. Too many drivers not being punished there, come to F1 expecting to carry on driving like idiots.

+ to all

To be fair to BBC they did say straight off about the jump start then got a little distracted by the coming together on turn 1

Ditto the race committee which should have addressed it straight away as they have sensors for just this issue.  It should be a 10-second "stop-go" - after the SC of course

- so shame also on the stewards but I guess they also got distracted with the bits of car flying around on turn 1.  Then on L5,  Maldonardo fixed the problem for them on the rear end of Glock

Later a BBC replay showed Charlie Whiting shaking his head as soon as he hit the "GO" button

Rant over, Monza next week then I'm off to help some wildebeest jump start the crocs for 3 weeks.

Wot no F1 ???  no worries,  the PVR is all set.

Ex GP racer Alex Zanardi wins a gold medal at the Paralympics hand cycle time trial. Well done to him a true hero.

A prime example of how motor racing can still bit back. For those not so well up with motor sport Alex almost died at the Indy car event at Lautsitzring, he was hit in the side by another car, his car broke in two, taking Alex's legs with the front section.  He was seconds from death but quick action by Dr Trammel and some belts for tourniquets saved Alex.

Interesting POV from Will Buxton, racer and TV commentator:-

HTF is Kimi 3rd in The Championship? 1 point behind 2nd (Lewis). He hasn't done anything!

Just like when he became world champion!
