Christmas "Tipple"?
Posted by: Dustysox on 30 November 2011
The festive season now approaches.
So, there you are..you have worked hard all year. Looked after your family. Now it's your turn....
Picture this, sat in front of your system, all comfy in your favourite chair/listening position. All sounds glorious (upgrades a distant memory...utter contentment!), remote in one hand and glass of.........in the other?
Do tell.
Mine a wee glasss of Highland Park...I could go on and probaly will!!!!
I am just about to buy my more or less biennial bottle of Malt (I'm a really rubbish drinker) and I'll be replacing a bottle of Clynelish. Really lovely, honey-like fruity and warm (I like the lowland Malts). Nicest whisky I have ever had. I quite liked Auchantoshan too.
We have a whisky specialist shop just up the road with hundreds of bottles of various. I'm not responsible for their continued thriving business, but they are always nice to me when I do go!
Bruce
The only time of year I drink Port.
A good 20 year old Tawny, served chilled, is all the post indulgence sweetness I need.
And will be cracking a Taylor 85 to go with the Stilton later on I think.
But I just had a glass of Dry Amontillado left over from a wine course I ran this week and it was delicious.
I'm hoping to quaff some Amarone della Valpolicella from the Azienda Agricola PrĂ¡. If Santa's nice there may be some port and stilton, but I'll be happy if the Amarone comes through.
Clear Creek Apple Brandy. The poor man's calvados. $22 per bottle in my neighborhood. The only liquor I drink neat, regardless of price. Clear Creek FTW!
Me: Old Jamaica Ginger Beer. Mrs: Bailey's. We have but simple tastes.
Just got a half case , a couple of Spatlase , Spanish Rioja for general drinking (if he turns up) and a Valpolicella for Christmas diner.
Port n Lemon anyone!!!!!
I'm normally an old fashioned beer and whisky guy. I have the occasional glass of wine with a special meal and the odd malt if an old friend is visiting. However on Christmas day after a pint or two at lunch time and a beautiful traditional dinner cooked by my wife I like nothing better than a couple of large glasses of Baileys Irish Cream poured over ice. It's so smooth and rich and soothing I don't know why I don't drink it more often.
Springbank 15 yr old. So much better than the 10. Also armagnac from 1987 and Maury solera begun in 1928. Not at the same time, though.
This year we are out over most of the 2x days of Christmas & off to Italy for new year.
I have already in house & in use ..........
The Macallum 25
- strictly for personal use or only people who actually know real scotch
Famous Grouse
- a nice blended that suits most people for straight & mixers
Gordons Gin 47.3%
- Yellow label high proof thats only available outside UK - a duty free must buy
- not to be confused with the 37% virgin water stuff we get in UK
Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon - case of 12 arrived direct from SA last week
Need to get a decent Port (for the stilton) & some Baileys for 'erself
Plus the usual mixers, beers & some reds & whites to refill the wine rack
I've two nice bottles of rum.
One is Appleton Special, the other is Mckibbins Demerara.
Will make a nice change from my usual Bacardi
'The Macallan' - shurely shome mishtake......cheersh! G
