n-stream app not finding ND5XS

Posted by: pixies on 02 December 2011

Just installed new ND5XS and its working fine via the supplied remote.  However I have downloaded the n-stream app for my iPod Touch but it is failing to connect to the player.  After initial set up it searches for devices but states 'No devices found'

Any help out there?

Go to Factory Settings >System Status on the ND5XS and find the IP address. In set up in the n-Stream app set the IP address and turn off auto connect. Traded my Transporter for a Qute and now SU. enjoy!!

Thanks badlyread, however I am unable to access setup in the n-Stream app.  I have 3 options:

Select device (No devices found)

Connection (Auto connection is on)

About (app vession 2.2)

There is a heading that says Setup but nothing happens when I touch it.  Should I reinstall the app?

OK ignore my last post, as I was making some schoolboy errors (not unusual!).  I can now connect to n-stream, but get a message telling me that front panel set up mode active. Exit setupmode to continue.  I can't exit set up mode!!

press exit on the ND5 remote!!!

And read the manual...

I had a similar problem with my NDX when I first purchased it some 7 months ago.  I played around with the IP settings but it never really worked very well, and N-stream refused to automatically ID the NDX.  Emailed Naim and they suggested that it was my router (BT HomeHub2), which apparently are 'notorious for UPnP discovery'.

I bought a used Apple Airport Extreme off fleabay, piggybacked it onto the HH2 and it worked seamlessly.  N-stream always discovers and loads perfectly...

OK, thanks all.  I was having a few problems with my router which is sorted and all working.  I'm going now.......

Ok ok got the message.  But sometimes its difficult not to just plug in and play with a new toy.

I do exactly the same

How are you finding it ?

Initial thoughts are that it is very good.  Seems louder, more detailed with a more defined bass, compared to the Transporter.  But early days yet as I spent most of last night trying to get things working correctly.

Ok I'm back!

Got the n-stream app working and have even looked at the instructions within the ND5XS user guide....but....I do not get any volume control showing?  The image shown in the user guide shows volume control, at bottom of app screen.  I do not have it on my version, (are there any other more detailed instructions anywhere? I will read them, honest).

Are you in the 'Library' window or the 'Input/Playing' window? Volume control is in the main playing window.

Read a manual!!!!

Press the little green cog at the bottom right of the screen in the main window. Make sure enable volume control is on

badlyread. I have read the instructions! Pages 9 and 10 of the reference maual.  In the playing screen my ipod Touch looks just as the image shown on page 10 (second down on left), except my screen only shows the left and right track selection and stop key.  There is no volume bar below it.

James.  What little green cog and what main screen (the playing screen?)  There is no cog shown on the image on page 10 of the reference manual.

I do appreciate the help.

Ah - i was on an iPad, On the iPhone / Touch go -

Inputs (top left)

Setup (top right)

Other settings - Show volume control.

Ok, getting closer but not quite.

For 'other settings' I only have 2 options, 'Clear image cache' and 'Use hi-fi language'.  No option to 'show volume control'. Again this is as shown on p9 of the reference manual for the ND5XS.

 2 further points:

  1. I have downloaded n-stream on my sons iphone and it mirrors my Touch - no volume.
  2. when I first open the app, it shows 'connecting' and then very briefly shows the volume bar, which then disappears

What do you get when you press uPnp? No volume at the bottom?

Posted on: 03 December 2011 by james n

Have you enabled system automation on the ND5XS setup menu and then connected the RC5 output from the ND5XS to the amp RC5 in ? If not then you won't get the volume option.

Just read the MANUAL. James is quite correct......

Posted on: 03 December 2011 by pixies

Thanks James I will try this.  Just need to get appropriate lead.

badlyread.  I have read the manual and this point was not clear to me the first time I read it.  One great function of this forum is to to seek help when it is needed.  I have often done this and indeed have offered relevant advice on some issues.  To keep telling me to read the manual at every opportunity just winds me up, but maybe that was your objective?

May have forgotten to add one of these...
