Help needed accessing music ripped on a Uniti Serve

Posted by: Terrysmi on 02 December 2011

This is my first post here and my set up is :

Naim NAP250-2

Naim NAC52

Naim Supercap2

Naim XPS2

Naim NDX Network Player  with XPS2 Power ( this accesses a Tranquil Windows Home Sever )

Naim DAC Digital/ Analogue Converter

Naim Unitiserve-SSD Compact HD Player

Michell Gyro Deck

Spendor A9 Loudspeakers

I now have about 500 of my albums ripped onto the WHS by the Unitiserve. The Naim side of things works fine however I have just bought some Sonos for music in the kitchen , bedrooms and bathrooms. Having pointed the Sonos at the WHS it finds all the music on there and this is shown under folders. All the metadata is there as is most of the cover art which in my experience is an issue with WAV. However if i go and look under artists or albums there are literally a couple and that it. If i look in tracks then about 10% of the music is shown. Can anyone shed any light please

Your problem is at the UPnP server software level. Use Asset under windows and it will work ok.

You need to share the folder on the WHS and point the Sonos at the shared folder.  Right click on the folder, choose properties and click on the sharing tab, give the share a name etc. and then setup Sonos to access this named share.

Whilst Sonos can recognise a UPNP server, including Asset it is better at doing its own indexing by accessing a SMB share unless you reach the 65k track limit on Sonos when accessing via UPNP can be useful.

Can a Sonos recognize the data in a UnitiServe with an internal hard drive?

Thanks,
