Your 2012 Concerts
Posted by: Lontano on 03 December 2011
So far booked....
King Creosote/Jon Hopkins, Brighton
Steve Hackett, Farnham
Neil Cowley Trio, London
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band - Sunderland
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band - Hyde Park
King Creosote and John Hopkins, literally amongst the bookshlves at Lancaster Public Library. Very jolly it was too. Hokins piano playing revealed new elements of the album I'd not really appreciated. The lady in front of me was so moved she collapsed during the encore...oh the joys of being a medic in a public place.
Bruce
Steve Hackett ,Komedia Brighton. Another excellent show. Was a little worried about the new Bass player ,but no need he was excellent, left handed but with the strings upside down ,ie lowest string at the bottom, I bet he learned on a right handed bass.
Duran Duran on 8 March in Dubai. Can't believe we are going to see them, they were my teenage heroes! We would go to nightclubs day after day just to watch their videos.
Prince in Calgary, Canada. Best concert ever.
Off to see the Leisure Society on Wednesday, they are playing at the Art Centre in Norwich - charming venue.......
Gary
Bruce both nights in Gothenburg at Ullevi stadium.
Aussie Floyd in March (twice :-) ), and thanks to you guys (Lontano is costing me a large fortune) I'm now going to see Tord Gustaven for the first time at a tiny venue 10 miles from here (where the Olympics were invented) and have now decided to go see Steve Hacket again. Missed his last tour as was away, but have seen him many times before.
I dare not visit what are you listening to as it is costing me way to much recently.
I do wish that some of the major artists or their management would remember there is more to the UK than the O2 in the East end, indeed - anything outside of London! Thats for another thread though.
(Lontano is costing me a large fortune)
Always happy to be of service and spend your money :-)
I am going to see Tord also in Southampton. I last saw him a few years back now in a beautiful concert hall in Sydney where they played the room with no amplification. It was a work of art.
I am pleased to tell you that Mr Hackett was on excellent form again last night with a solid helping of Genesis favourites. Enjoy!

We saw Tord (trio) a couple of years back in Vancouver. Front row seats. Sublime.

I love the way Steves concerts go from sublime acoustic guitar to searing 'golden note' electric swathes so easily. Lets face it - nobody else plays Firth of Fifth quiet like he can - though some come close.
Very much looking forward to Tord Gustaven - I have no idea if this will be acoustic or not.
Still keeping away from what are you listening to until March, at the earliest!
Steve Hackett at the Holfirth Picturedome.
He really seems to like this venue, and it was a great night. Thanked the audience for being patient through quite a bit of recent material at the start, and then rewarded us with a lot of great music from the last century.
Most of all the whole band were enjoying playing, not just going through the motions as some of his contemporaries seem to do live these days. A lovely evening all in all.

Glad you enjoyed it Jamie. It is so wonderful to see an artist of this calibre in small venues. I was leaning on the stage in Brighton and Steve kept looking and smiling at us all, interacting. His guitar playing up close is fascinating, so controlled and within his capabilities but sounding so good.

I have to agree , watching up close you can see the intricacies of his playing, very small movements on the tremolo arm for instance, probably lost to view further back. He does seem to genuinely enjoy himself and that "rubs" off on the crowd. He must have shares in Johnston's baby powder though.
Glad others are enjoying this tour. It was especially good for me, as after finishing the recent project (from hell) I had become very ill, still on antibiotics, and this was my first night out this year, so the fact it was such a good show made even more special.
The Australian Pink Floyd this Friday in Dublin. Looking forward.
Brad
Götterdämmerung at Longborough and La Bohemme at Chorégies d’Orange in July.
Just received notification from Bayreuth, Parsifal on the 5th of August.
I'm going to be borassic by the end of that lot.
Brad,
I was lucky enough to get to the concert at Hammersmith last year now that was filmed for their DVD.
It's my understanding that they have retained the new laser effects from that show (not just your average green and red) the whole effect with the rest of the set being visually stunning and very fast moving.
Their set list will be interesting as they seem to be encorporating some early stuff again.
Very much looking forward to seeing them again shortly.
Went to see William D Drake a couple of weeks ago at the windmill in Brixton, twas a very good night indeed except for the fact that when we got back to the car, the window frame had been bent out and ipod and stereo gone.
Maybe going to see William D Drake at the New Cross Inn this friday.
The Stranglers next month, always a good night out.
Saw Yolanda Brown last Saturday in that well known musical hotbed: Didcot. Her personality really comes across live and her backing band was also excellent....wish I'd gone to London to see her with the royal philharmonic. She also did a sax workshop in the afternoon which really fired up my daughter's enthusiasm.
Following up with juan martin this weekend and jackie Oates (the unthanks) in april
I am very excited for 2012.
Buckethead a few weeks ago.
Spiritualized and Radiohead booked.
I am sure NOMEANSNO will roll around as the always do.
-Patrick
I have Buckethead tickets for March 31 in Philadelphia.
pcstockton, how was the show? I thought I was the only Bucket fan on here. His new album "electric sea" was released today.
I went to an Aussie PF gig a few years ago and it was flawless but dead, there was nothing of themselves in it. I'd rather hear a covers band putting their stamp on the music than a tribute band trying to mimic the original.
Fair enough. I have never heard PF live and will not now be able to do so. I guess that the closest I will get to the real thing will be the APF concert. I am looking forward to the fact that they are accurate in their interpretation. Dub, reggae and country versions of the band's music are all very well, but the chance to hear some of their material live, albeit not played by the actual band, but still vanilla, very much appeals to me.
Brad
Surely the point of cover bands like APFS and Los Endos etc are to play like the bands they are covering, in absence of being able to hear the "real thing".
OK so it's a bit like listening to the album at home, unless you have a remarkable system , you don't get the levels and light show in the living room though!
March 20th for us to see APFS in Brighton.
