Brad,
I have followed these guys since '96 and have seen them at least 50+ times. The way they have evolved and grown musically and production wise in that time has been a great journey to follow. We even used to get to drink with them after the show - no longer as the venues have gotten way to big for that now.
They are THE tribute band (of all - not just Floyd) to see imo, and are a very long way from 'dead'.
The show is truly remarkable, and as accurate as is possible to be. That is exactly what they set out to do, and they say so.
For heavens sake they even use some of the original Floyds road crew & backing singers!
Considering the size of the tour they have embarked on this time, the size of the venues, and the amount that are sold out - the formulae appears to be working well, and very good luck to them I say.
No - they are not 'the real thing' and I would love to see that again, but close your eyes and you will be at a Floyd concert, open them, and you are at what the Floyd would probably be doing this day.
Considering the amount of £$dosh the real Floyd threw at a stage show these are outstanding.
Not once have I left one of their gigs feeling let down or short changed.
& Lets face it, the chances of ever getting to see the real guys on stage as a complete set & show are now Zero.
Sure - RW is still touring the Wall, and there is every chance that Gilmore will release a new album and tour it (rumours of this seem to grow stronger monthly), but to get a Pink Floyd show 'live' again will take (in the words of Nick Mason) something bigger than Geldoff & Liveaid
Perhaps it's just me but I find 'dub side' and that stupid take of 'comfy' as a pop song almost vomit inducing - even if not taken seriously. As for a country version - oh perleeez.
I'm guessing that for a short while, especially the first time folks see them, they automatically refer them to the real thing. By track two or three you are just lost in the music.
Strewth and I wasn't even trolling.
I do seem to be in a minority though.
I'd forgotten about dubside, somebody gave me a copy, I think I've played it once, I may not have reached the end.
Floyd were the first band I got into and I've never seen them live but the tribute band model just doesn't work for me, Boot led Zeppelin even used the adlibs from "the song remains the same" FFS.
Hi Yeti,
I never took your post to be anything but what you stated - the truth. It certainly did not come across as trolling. My apologies if you took my reply as having a go - it was not, I was putting forward my point of view.
Like yourself I never, for a minute, thought I would get into the 'tribute' band scene.
I have to admit thugh, it has gven me and a lot of mates countless hours of great music and good times. All at a vey affordable price as well :-)
It is a shame that you didn't get to see Floyd live, I managed a mere twice, but never with Waters. Recently I have managed Waters & Gilmore several times, fortunately.
I am uncertain as to which point you got to see the APF - there was a major change in venues a couple of years ago in the transition from small (1 - 300 seats) to mid size / cut in half stadium etc. That obviously provided them with a huge challenge both set and sound wise.
If you saw them in a stadium setting now, then you will have seen a somewhat 'shrunk' real floyd show.
It may be worth checking out their You Tube set as there are many songs officially put up from the gig at Hammesmith, that gives a fair showing of what they do. I actually think the sound live was better still, ce la vie.
They do actually stamp their own identity rather well I think with a 20' high pink inflatable kangaroo making an appearance during one of these days, and skippy the bush Kangaroo playing at the end is a bit of a give away.
There are a whole bunch of other tributes that I have / still enjoy. The Freds (Zepplin) put on a good show, Suppers Ready were great, as were Fragile. Even got to see Steve Howe playing with them, so that was a fair commendation for them.
I just found that getting into the music and having a fun time at these giggs allowed me back into real shows that I had little chance of ever experiencing again.
Just my point of view.
First time Field Music gig last night @ King's College. Really enjoyed the tight playing and solo/harmony singing. I must say they reminded me of the feeling I had at my very first gig in 1969, when I saw Jethro Tull. I had no idea at the time, that 'live' music could enrich and expand the studio perfomance we listened to then and now on the medium of our choice.
They are my new favourite 4 piece 'live' boy band after seeing my favourite 4 piece girl band last year, 'Electrelane'
It was a relief the aircon came on just as the band started, as the atomosphere was becoming Uncomfortably Humb . I will also order more FM related CD's
Looking forward to the next London on 17th Oct, buy here -> http://www.field-music.co.uk/
Half a dozen new tracks, then carpet crawled his way into the Firth of Fifth :-)
This is the whole of 'Hierophant' (well, the bendy guitar bits) - A wondeful acoustic segue which morphed into the whole of blood on the rooftops.
Drummer had sung way to much recently at a guess so 'audience participation' helped no end, especially when he forgt the words!
Outstanding concert - great atmosphere.
Free Midday concert: Piano Magic - 3 Mar @ Union Chapel http://www.unionchapel.org.uk/...95-bfb7-d1f5b7a594a9
Free guest invite: Sweet Billy Pilgrim 19 Mar @ Blacks, Dean St. http://goldenslippers.tumblr.com/events

James Grant - 18 May @ The Borderline
Field Music - 17 Oct @ The Electric Ballroom
I thoroughly enjoyed the Australian Pink Floyd concert. It may not have been a hi-fi experience but boy was it FUN! They played all the tracks I hoped they would and I am pleased to have had the experience of hearing PF's music live.

Saw Wolf People and Diagonal at the Garage Islington.
Having a great 2012 in Melbourne, so far I've seen
- The Whitest Boy Alive - amazing atmosphere
- Laura Marling
- Roger Waters
- Matt Corby
And I've got Elbow and Seasick Steve to come next month, not to mention John Cleese
Gotta love Australia
Cheers Maaate

Dead Can Dance have annpunced their European tour dates for later this year, including the Royal Albert Hall on Fri Oct 26th, which I hope I can make.
Other tour dates (Presumably the USA) will be announced later.
Marcus Miller at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 5th May 2012
A very different set from the Aussie Floyd last night in Liverpool, they didn't even start with 'Shine On'!
Still an amazing show, ultimate professionalism throughout.
Dont want to say too much as I know others are going - but it is different to the more usual sets of the last few years.
Didn't take my camera this time so a phone pic will have to suffice :- Keep Talking.
I think a lot of the audience were 'newbies' as the comments on leaving were fun, mostly along the lines of why the hell haven't I bothered before or where are they next. They were all on their feet for the last couple of numbers.
So far...
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Marillion
I had tickets for Black Sabbath, but as you know it was changed to Ozzy and friends... Well, wasn't that interested in seeing "friends" so I returned the tickets.
Still hoping to see Rush in 2012!
I think it was Lontano who mentioned Steve Wilson was playing the O2 - I just took this to be 'The Dome' so looked no further.
Then found it was the Sheperds Bush version so have just scored some tickets for myself and a good mate.
Turning into a good year after a dearth of good concerts for me. Trying to get time for Crippled Black Phoenix in London as well. Another Aussie Floyd, Tord Gustavsen & Dead can Dance :-)
Just booked for The Civil Wars later in the year @ Liverpool Phil (great venue)
Half a dozen new tracks, then carpet crawled his way into the Firth of Fifth :-)
This is the whole of 'Hierophant' (well, the bendy guitar bits) - A wondeful acoustic segue which morphed into the whole of blood on the rooftops.
Drummer had sung way to much recently at a guess so 'audience participation' helped no end, especially when he forgt the words!
Outstanding concert - great atmosphere.
Totally agree - the Norwich show last week was great. FoF & Hierophant (Amanda Lehmann does a good Sally Oldfield!!!) being highlights for me too. And finishing with Watcher of the Skies & Spectral Mornings rounded things off very nicely. Sound quality was very good too.
Re. Gary O'Toole's singing - I think that any drummer that sings at the same time as playing must be applauded. All four limbs in motion, all keeping time plus remembering the words always impresses me. Can remember seeing the much maligned ex-band mate of Mr H's doing much the same on TOGWT back in the late 70's (playing with Brand X and just before I knew who he was). Felt it was an impressive feat of musicianship and started the music enthusiasm ball rolling for me.

I really do give up with this software that runs this forum.
Constantly changing and so full of bugs a camel would be right at home.
Useless, just useless.
Can't even write a reply + picture in the same frame now.
Anyways - a great & very 'different' time last night in Much Wenlock. Tord Gustaven in a studio like setting with maybe a hundred and fifty in the audience.
Acoustics were just great - just about amplified sound. That guy is an artist in every description of the word at the keyboard.
Drummer and Double bass players got notes / tunes out of their kit that should not come from them??
Tonight, the opposite end of the musical spectrum.
Aussies are in Brum so a bit of an ear bashing until comfortably numb
Steve enjoy APFS, we did last night (Wednesday). See "What was the Last Concert" thread.
