ARCHIVE - Tuesday 4th December in Heaven (London).

That should be fun to find :-)

We saw Coldplay last night in Nice and it was an excellent concert.

They maybe the band that everyone wants to hate, but they really looked like they were all enjoying themselves, which is - to me - what makes the difference between a good concert and a poor one, almost as much as the degree to which you like the music. And they have got some very good tunes.

The lightshow and projections and all that malkarkey was top-notch, in fact it was pretty much the most colourful concert I have ever been to.

We were very lucky with the weather as we've just had four days of non-stop rain which ended yesterday morning, with a return scheduled for tomorrow and the weekend (which is, on balance not a bad thing as I think it advantages Lewis Hamilton!)

One I never imagined I would go to at  the RAH.

Tori Amos doing a (currently) one off special October 3rdd, c/w orchestra.

Very, very nearly sold out if anyone else is interested - dont leave it until tomorrow!

There was me thinking GoodWood FOS & DCD were my last events for 2012

(Just had to try those gremloids out)

Last night I went to what was described as a "re-envisioning" of Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" in the magical surroundings of the chapel at King's College, London. And very very good it was too.

I attended the Roger Hodgson show last evening; what a nice evening!  He truly appreciated the accolades from the audience, and put on a really enjoyable show.  His band is great, and they did ample justice to Supertramp's music.  They did none of the Rick Davies material (not surprisingly) but, then again, it was a Roger Hodgson show

Dexys at the Bridgewater Hall. Astonishing gig. Old stuff was good at the end but it's what they were doing in 2003 bar the new version of Eileen so that lessened the impact. However the main set, the album in full, was remarkable. Best I've ever heard KR sing too. Love people dismissing him as a minor talent because he had hit singles. Lovely to see Big Jim up there too. He had a look on his face that I last saw in the Funk Brothers film. A sort of vindication at last look. Great stuff. My sister and friends of mine saw them at Liverpool Phil. The main friend is an especially harsh critic and thought they were astonishing. Afraid I'm long over Springsteen live. What I saw between 79 and 85 won't be surpassed and the records are now over compressed and have little to say. Some great pop there but they're old men and half the attraction live was the exuberance and energy which has understandably waned, although it still seems to impress some. The stories which used to light up gigs seem to have gone too so for me it's not the stadiums it's the routine and ritual of it. A bit boring and predictable dare I venture. Going to skip Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin. Been there before too. The new Shawn is lovely in places but a dark often unending thing. I don't especially want that in a live experiences. Next up for me will be Mark Mulcahy. Seen him before but there's new material and a voice that kills.
