Once the official press release is issued then all questions will be answered - until then please treat any information given on here as conjecture as - as with all products - no-one at Naim can say anything about a product until it is officially anounced.

It seems interesting that different companies have different broadcasting strategies.

PS Audio starts sales long time before the product is released.

Paul chats on forums, upload some lucrative stories, sharing some specs of a future product -- even schedules the launch date (which never happen to match the actual ).

In some sense they trying to keep the parish on hold by demotivating them from moving to the other brands which already released the similar product.

Naim is obviously opposite and keeps all R&D in a secret -- showing a kind of a confidence in the imminent success of new products, no matter when and where they are to be released.

Actually both strategies work

*chuckle* If Paul Stephenson (our MD) wants to comment on products being developed then of course he is more than welcome to. (Remember though that the products may be subject to change as they are still in development.)

The rest of us "minions" are bound by NDA's / not wishing to get our butts kicked and are not allowed to make comments about products until they are officially announced by means of a press release.

Cheers

when a unit goes into production naim should inform customers so they can plan.

That's generally the purpose of the official press release - at that point the product should be finalised and being built for production...

Naim Digital Amplifier?

NDA sounds very interesting, will there be a NDA PS?

Will there be a Super NDA?

Posted on: 06 December 2011 by rich46

NDA means Non-Disclosure Agreement ... but I like your interpretation more

I'm glad that's cleared up. I was concerned that the Norwegian Dental Academy had overstepped its mandate.

Did I miss something? What is this NDS talk about?

Nope, it's the upcoming XP5XS he's referring to....

details of the £1600 power supply on web at 10am ish designed for streamer/dac market .limited output current than 555 i expect.

Posted on: 07 December 2011 by roo

hifi-product-range/3446 link is broken

Posted on: 07 December 2011 by rich46

£1600 take note of limited current output .  from memory the dac transformer is 200VA

Posted on: 07 December 2011 by pcstockton

Seems clear to me.....

"The XP5 XS is a very high performance multi-rail power supply that borrows significantly from the Classic Series XPS. In addition to its application to the ND5 XS, the XP5 XS is able to power the CDS, CDX and CDX2 CD players, the HDX hard disk player, the NDX network player and the DAC digital to analogue converter."

Because it is aimed mainly at the "slimline" products.

It may power up a NDX, a CDX2 or even a CDS3 but it's not going to be an ideal partnership. Your best bets are on the XPS and 555PS for those units.

Bye.

PS; I would like to see one with the top cover removed. I like Naim p0rn.

Posted on: 08 December 2011 by rich46

ive mailed naim about this issue. it seems the the power supply will power the analogue 300va   and the internal with power the digital  200VA.

MOST CUSTOMERS would need this info at launch ,it is an important selling point

Posted on: 08 December 2011 by AMA

Allen, I don't get you frustration -- the web page clearly states:

XP5 XS sits below the XPS and 555 PS supplies in the performance hierarchy but still delivers superb value for money.

I guess it's mostly designed for ND5 but may improve nDAC and NDX as well.

Posted on: 08 December 2011 by rich46

the majority of dac owners will run it alone and naim reallize this....   their direction is streaming now the new psu is affordable and it will be a massive multi product add on

Posted on: 08 December 2011 by AMA

Since nDAC/XP5XS goes around 6 K$ I would love to see how does it go against a similarly priced Weiss DAC202   Actually DAC202 should be fairly run against nDAC/XP5XS/Headline/NAPSC

Big shame Weiss is not present on Dubai market.

Someone pls give a swiss guy a map of the world!

Not really - in this application, the external piower supply is adding an additional stage of regulation, pre device (eg NDX) internal regulation stages where most of the benefit is gained so i doubt most would be concerned with the VA rating. I'm sure this PSU will 'sound' different to the XPS2 due to its smaller transformer and looser parts selection criteria to meet the price point.

Yes that would be an interesting comparison. I had a 202 back in my system last week which was interesting to listen to again against my (bare) NDX.

the regulation will be the same .,its the isolation between circiuts that are the benifit.  the transformers will be the same except for the current rating

Posted on: 09 December 2011 by james n

Yes - due to the additional stage of regulation the external PS gives.
