inexpensive 2.1 home theater system for a small room

any suggestions?  I tried a BOSE cinemate at $799 which has 2 speakers and a sub that connects directly to the TV.  Wasn`t worth the money.  Anybody use NAD Viso 2.1 system?  Any other ideas?. I really dont want to start with alot of wires and rear speakers.  I am looking for something that will make watching dvd`s or tv movies or sporting events more exciting to watch.  Would like to keep budget less than $2000 US dollars.  Cheers, david

I have a 2nd system that includes a Panasonic Blu-Ray player into the tv via hdmi, then analog audio out from the TV into Audio Engine A5 powered speakers.  It sounds quite nice and would be far below your price point.

Try the Bird series from Focal. Sounds really good with lower quality sources as a television for example, but sounds very well with high quality sources too. Computer and iOS sources can be connected through wifi as well.

Orbitsound T12v3 Soundbar.  Amazing with BluRay, and still very good with TV and DVD.  £300 UK price.

JWM is it possible to connect a BluRay player or is it just an uprated iPod dock?

ferenc, I am intrigued by the Focal Bird system.  Do you own it? If not, have you heard it through a home theater situation?  david
