New router woes - please help IT idiot

I need some help please

In my living room I have my HDX connected to my router via an ethernet cable. This connects via 10m ethernet cable to a switch in my study which connects to my iMac and a ReadyNAS Duo. Also connected to the router is a over mains network adapter. Another over mains network adapter is connected to my Unitiqute in the bedroom. This was working brillantly and had been fautless for the last six months.

On Tuesday I lost broadband so arranged for a BT engineer to come in. Even though broadband was down I was still streaming music all around my house without a problem.

The BT engineer diagnosed a faulty router and replaced my old BT Homehub 3.0 for a new one. An exact like for like swap. Broadband now working

I configured the router in exactly the same way as I had six months ago when I moved and  switched to BT.

However I can no longer play music stored on the NAS which has been ripped by the HDX. So music on the internal HDX hard drive can be played on the HDX and the Unitiqute. Music on the NAS which isn't in the Music Store, including 24/96 files, can be played on the HDX and the Unitiqute. Music in the Music Store on the NAS is unlistenable. It buffers every few seconds and stops and starts. This occurs on both HDX and Unitiqute.

What's going on here? Presumably I've missed something really obvious but I just can't see it. Many thanks for your help.

It sounds like the switch in your router is not nan enough for the job( or it's incorrectly negotiating half duplex or slower port speeds). I suggest you get a little switch like a netgear and position by your router. Plug those Ethernet leads that we're going into your router switch into the little standalone switch, and the connect a single patch lead from that switch to your router. This way the o ly traffic going through your router switch is to and from the Internet.
Good Luck

What is curious is that you can play music on the Uniqute that is stored on the HDX.  This is taking the most complex path of HDX > Router > Hub > Ethernet over Mains > Unitqute.  Conversly the NAS is OK when serving to the Unitqute but not the HDX.

I would be tempted to turn everything off and on again before changing anything.  Not scientific but the issue you have isn't consistent.

Also have you tried different ports on the router, in case you have a faulty port?

Thanks for the replies. I've added a switch between the HDX and router but no joy. I've also rebooted everything several times.

The NAS only works when it's serving music that's in a Network share and not in a Music Store. I've just demoted and promoted the Music Sore again so will see what that does.

Ahh. The joys of UPnP! A misnomer if there ever was one! Glad to hear it is working OK now.

So how did you fix it?  (Or did Sod's law prevail?)

I don't actually know how I fixed it. I demoted and then premoted the Music Store and when I checked 3 hours later it was working properly. I don't know if this was the fix or not.
