Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms re-issues

Posted by: Klout10 on 11 December 2011

Years ago, I used to own the original CD of this album (1985 W. Germany pressing). For some reason, I got rid of it during the years. Now I've heard some tracks of this album through Radio Paradise recently and I'd like to own a copy of this album again.

However, except for the original version, there is also the remastered version, SACD version, etc. Which is the one to go for??

Regards,
Michel

Original version, if you can still find it. Apparently the remastered one has been dynamically compressed so it sound 'louder'. Google "loudness wars" if you're not quite sure what I'm talking about.

SACD?  I have an excellent remastered HDCD which sounds really, really well.

Are you sure it is SACD and hon HDCD?

Yes, there is also a SACD version of this album. Just do a quick Google search on: Brothers in Arms SACD. It has something to do with a 20th Anniversary Edition.

I'm more interested to find out if it's worth going for the "remastered" or the original (1985) version...

Regards,

Michel

1985 West German pressing  - I have both and it is more dynamic and naturally textured than the later 'remaster'.  G
