MEET ME IN LONDON

Naim Label guitar virtuoso Antonio Forcione was touring Europe, when he chanced upon the stunning tone and control of twenty-something Sabina Sciubba at an after-show celebration in Hamburg. Upon his return to the UK, he made a beeline for Naim Audio with a spur-of-the-moment idea to take this amazing young lady into the studio. Antonio and Sabina exchanged demo tapes and song ideas until in the autumn of 1997, the two met at September Sound Studio in Twickenham to record an album of popular reinterpretations and originals. The resultant LP, Meet Me In London, became Naim's most successful album to-date and is to this day cherished by audiophiles and music lovers the world over.

As our most treasured album, Meet Me In London was the perfect subject for launching Naim's first Super Hi Def 24/192kHz download. Far from being a simple remaster, this multi-track analogue conversion, remix and remaster at 192kHz took months of hard work to preserve the sonic and emotive qualities of this fascinating album at some of the UK's finest studios with legendary producer Tony Platt. We strongly recommend watching the below documentary 'Meet Me In London - Reborn At 192kHz'.

What a fascinating insight to the process.  You thought digital was easy?

What I want to know is, does a 192  recording change much if played at 96, if it can?

Posted on: 15 December 2011 by roo

The Naim Label site is currently listing the MP3 prices for the album tracks but the pulldowns show 24/192. If I add a track to the shopping cart the track detail on the left shows MP3 320k but the pulldown on the right shows Super Hi Definition 24bit 192kHz. I only get the correct prices if I change the download format pulldown. I'm using Chrome 15.0.874.121 m.

To be honest BigH, 192kHz is such a different world, we weren't happy with downsampling we heard. It didn't quite cut it. In the new year, we'll keep working on it and you might just get a 96kHz version to compare. It is best in its rawest form (24/192 WAV), for certain!

The part of the process the video does NOT show was Tony Platt coming to Naim to explore the differences between formats and sample rates last week. At 192kHz, it was an eye (or should I say ear) opening experience!

Roo - thank you so much for your feedback. This also seems to be the case with IE. We'll lock it down asap. Hope you got lucky with album pricing for your trouble

Enjoy!

I didn't try the download as it looked like I may get mp3. Might give it a go though as I could do with some 24/192 to stream to my NDX.
Posted on: 16 December 2011 by Simon Drake

No MP3s allowed on that page, don't worry. The fault has been removed, thank you for pointing it out. The store defaults to the prices of the format purchased last time by the registered user and in this case no MP3s exist, so it was a little confused! Which is also why not everyone (including me) saw the problem, so thank you again!

This album is a prime choice for showing off the NDX!

Hi All,

I download this album late last nite and I couldn't describe the sound better than in the video uplaod (above).

You couldn't miss - The separation/imaging of instruments/vocals - Left, Right & Centre, Front & Back.

Although, I do not have standard version of this album to compare to but the hi-res is so smooth & relaxing.

At £17.99 an album is almost twice the price of standard version, the question is: Is it twice as good?

50kb/s -OMG this will take all week.

I was going to listen before hitting the sack.  This will take hours and probably fall over in the process.  I can download a gig from Apple in minutes so I know I have a decent connection, plus its in the middle of the night here.

Oh well.  See you in the morning I guess.  s    l    o   w.................

Hi Members,

I need some advize. Just ought the Antonio Forcione "Meet Me in London" CD at 192khz in FLAC format. I was hoping my SQ Touch would play it, but it doesn't. The SQ is limited to 96/24. Can somebody advize me how to convert 192/24 into 96/24. I use Windows 7 with DbPowerAmp and iTunes. Converting to 96 can be done, but than the sample rate drops to 16 in iTunes, whereas I want to keep the 24bit. Whatis the workaround ?

Posted on: 16 December 2011 by BigH47

Bitperfect may be a solution I think it sits below iTunes and allows other than 16/44.1 to be played, if I understand it right.

Hi Big, tx for the advize. I have found a solution within dbPoweramp by converting to AIFF fist. This enabled to resample down to 96/24

Simon,

I have had the album for a long time,Love it.

I also love some HR downloads.

One winner in every country would be better imo.

Any chance of buying it on a Naim stick??

Rather silly promotion

Those who already can play 24-192 can win a ND5 XS...

I don't want to download music I can't play

Thats better.  Finished with 360-400kb/s

Now for a back up of the file while warming up the amps for a bi of a comparison.

I run Mac/Weiss int202/Ndac so no problems with playing the file for me.

I must say this seems to be a very refreshing approach to high def after HDtracks.

Mind you, if Naim can't do it seriously then who would.  Now I'm off to do some listening.

<Idiot warning -  I really know nothing about this BUT>

I was saddened to hear ProTools mentioned.

I blame it (rightly or wrongly) for a lot of the travesties of mastering and mixing that get fed up to me in the name of music.

I think ProTools has a signature and it's not one I like.

and it seems to be bloody ubiquitous

A signature sound is only bad if you don't like that signature sound, most likely because it attracts too much attention to itself.

For example, I have had problems with the ELO / Jeff Lynne signature sound for a very long time, because it is so easily recognizable - even when Jeff Lynne produced Tom Petty or The Travelling Wilbury's. I love the sound of early ELO, though.

I have downloaded the sweet-sounding MEET ME IN LONDON-album in 24bit/192kHz.Compared to a Jack Johnson remastered album in 24/48 it is as clear with intruments and vocal(s) clearly separated.

Best wishes,

Peter

To make the Artwork/album cover appear in the Unitiserve;

{a}. Rename the file to "FOLDER" &

{b} Convert the file format from *.PNG  to *.JPG

What a fascinating article .... even at this level of audio it seems they're happy to tweak the sound with digital limiters and eq software.  When targeting at the "high end" I'd always assumed things were best left alone.

Sadly I'd little use for the new high res mix as my system can only handle 16bit/44.1kHz FLACs.

But it reminded me that I've been meaning to buy "meet me in London" for years, so downloaded the original instead.  It's great, especially track 8 "Brasilico" and £7 cheaper too!  highly recommended.

I  also converted the FLAC to wav and burnt to CD to play on my CD5x .... and surprisingly found the SQ only a TINY bit better than playing the FLAC directly via my sonos ZP90 (122x/150x amp and Neat Motive 1s)  ... not true for all recordings, the CD5x often wins with ease.

What would make it sound better still?  A better CD player, a better DAC for the sonos or the high res file and a high res capable decoder and DAC?  So many options these days!

Posted on: 05 January 2012 by megholm

Will it work with the built-in DAC if the Supernait? Sorry for being lazy...

Posted on: 06 January 2012 by nickarran

Apparently it will.  Supernait claims to handle 24/192 files.

I considered trading in my 122x/150x for a supernait (an extra £1000 probably)... but the super nait is spensive; probably not THAT much better than what I have and I'd still need something else to stream the data.  A lot of investment to play a few files.

Download already , it is perfect

Posted on: 11 March 2012 by MangoMonkey

Downloaded it yesterday. Where's my ND5XS? :-)

I accidentally paid in UK currency instead of US, since this was my first time on the Naim label, and the locale setting was kind of hidden away. Not sure if I got a better or worse deal.

Stunned by how good this sounds on my NDX, love the Sicilian song Caruso, some really old school Sicilian words, very impressed indeed.

Posted on: 26 March 2012 by Timbo

It is a very good album, I have it on CD (signed by the artists), record and now as a download. I like the record version better than the CD, seems to have more presence. However the best is from a memory stick directly into the NDac, a bit better than going through the SB Touch, lovely separation and will always be one of my favourite recordings.
