All

Bought a Sonny Rollins Lp recently and love the saxaphone.  Looking to buy some great sax to play on a cd Naim system or LP12/Naim system.

Recommendations please for a novice.

Not modern songs played on a saxaphone.  ie Sax 1 and 2 as sold on Amazon

Only geniune sax please.

Thanks HiFiKid

Try Gerry Mulligan meets Ben Webster  - Magical interplay between two masters...

Try John Klemmer Touch which is a beautiful album well recorded and if you like that try and get the follow up Barefoot Ballet as it is much the same.

Reminds me to dig them both out for a listen.

Wow what a response, I have already ordered some Sonny Rollins, Charlie Parker I think and few others listed on this thread. I think I will be learning fast both good and bad, but thts parts of the fun.

Will get back to you all once they have arrived.

Together with Getz/Gilberto this is my favorite saxophone album:

Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster

Would love to expand my collection with similar stuff, will be looking into what's been mentioned here already

Cheers,

Claus

I would add Benny Carter, Ike Quebec and Michael Brecker. If you fancy some sax led rock music, have a listen to Morphine.

David Sanborn, yes ... Kenny G, no. Certainly not in the same breath as Coltrane and Getz.

Jan Garbarek is a melodic/sonic genius. Another truly great modern is Michael Brecker. Check out his last album, Pilgrimage ... brilliant.

Speaking of Sonny Rollins,  don't miss Sonny Side Up, with Sonny Stitt on tenor, plus Dizzy Gillespie.

Then there's Coleman Hawkins, The Hawk Flies High. Indeed.
