squeezebox control app for ipad, which one?

Posted by: matpip on 16 December 2011

I'll get an ipad very soon, and I was wondering what's currently the best app to control my squeezebox touch. I checked older posts, which indicate ipeng as best product.

I was wondering if something new came out (squeezebox own app, which is free I think) and what do you guys suggest. Thanks

Squeezebox own app for i devices works well. There is also a version that runs on Android phones.

I have the computer Squeezebox server is running on on a wired connection. The Touch is using WiFi, runs with no problems.

Only thing to be aware of is Logitech has introduced a new version of Squeezebox Server. It is now called Logitech Media Server and incorporates video and picture serving. I upgraded via downloads when prompted and it went unreliable on me. I had to remove that and do a clean install using the full software download before it settled down and it had to rescan my NAS library which took about 6 hours.

All is well now though.

I've got iPeng, Squeezebox and Squeezepad. I prefer iPeng by a long way. Haven't had any issues with the new Logitech Media Server.

Yes, I upgraded to Media Server as well, and didn't worked well, so I came back to the previous version which is just fine.

I use both: the free app from Lgitech that comes with SQ and iPeng. Both can not compete with for example Remote for ITunes. However there isn't anything else, so in the end iPeng is the one I use day to day. iPeng has lot's of faculities (probably too much) but isn't very fast. Every time I close the app and re-open it to select other music, it takes up to a minute to synch. iPeng comes with iTunes "integration" however this integration is limited: albumart and stuff is ok, but especially groupings and playlists "live their own life" :-)

Just try both apps and decide which one suites you best

I understand it is possible to control an NDX with the new version of Squeezebox Server. Has anyone tried it and how well does it work?

I am using it to control ND5XS, however I am having a few provblems ie can't find my playlists.  I did post a question about it here last week but got 0 response.  Maybe I should try again?

As usual, you get for what you pay! I'll invest 10$ for iPeng.

Thanks everyone

On the Media Center issue, apart from managing videos and pictures (don't really care), is there any other significant advantage to upgrade the old Squeezebox Server?

I switched off the automatic upgrade search few months ago, and I'm tempted to stick to the previous version which is just fine, no troubles with ModsV3 as well...
