Another Howard iMac question

Question #10x 10³.

I'm trying to connect a USB to Co-Ax converter (Terralink X2), it is loaner from Julian H and we tried quickly with an untried USB cable with no success, I aquired another USB2 cable, thanks Kevin and tried again today.

Terralink lights up so is getting USB power from Mac.

Device doesn't show up in  Audio Midi setup.

This seems horribly familiar scenario, but I can't remember /don't know where to go from here, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Google as your friend in this instance seems to have failed me.

Howard

You guys are amazing I had barely posted my request and Teralink appears in Midi setup.

Well I moved USB sockets (again) and presto et viola there it was.

Selecting TLink as audio device makes sound and volume control is back too.

Was just about to answer but clearly the Naim forum has some built in magic.

Just a couple of comments from my own experience ( with my MAC AIR and Julian's Teralink when I visited him). The USB cable thing happened to me. We decided it might be a length thing because Julian's shorter one worked straight away.

You have to quit 'Audio Midi setup' in Utilities rather than just shut down between uses for it to start up properly each time.

Also doing a 'restart' of my MAC with the Teralink plugged in was necessary to get it to appear a couple of times.

Geoff

The Teralink can be a bit quirky in this respect, and length of USB cable's certainly a factor. However, in my experience if you just leave it connected up it'll be recognised every time you start up the computer. Guess you're not using an external power supply for it then Howard?

Thanks Tony , I'm having a short loan to determine it effectiveness, if I get one, then I'll probably get the/a PSU for it.

Hi Howard,

If I use another USB connected device, the iMac will then not 'see' the TeraLink again until I unplug its USB connection, wait 30 seconds, then re-connect it. I also have to make sure that it's selected in Mac Preferences 'Sound'.

Cranky indeed. Another brick in the wall for computer audio for me.

But, it surely improves the SQ over the digital-optical output.

Have fun, and good wishes for the festering season and 2012.

J.N. and Tony it seems all forms of computer have their foibles.

Teralink is very good, definitely better to the optical, against my optical to CoAx setup, it seems to have the edge, I'll live with it for a while and change back.
