Volume has a mind of it's own Unitiqute

Posted by: Andrew Phillipo on 25 December 2011

From time to time (maybe once a week) my Unitiqute decides it would like to turn up the volume to full or turn down the volume to 0.  It's a fun surprise, I suppose.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem - I swear I'm not leaning on the remote.

Obviously, the next step is to return it to the dealer for a swap, but it's not ideal... anyone else had this issue and can offer advice would be appreciated.

Andrew, check you don't have a remote for another device that uses the same codes that may be stuck down the back of a chair or sofa. This is usually the result. Otherwise, try covering the logo which is also the ir receiver. If the volume issue stops then you know it's an ir issue from some other device. If still issues then speak to your dealer. Happy Xmas.

My my, here we all are on christmas. What dedicated souls we all are.

Andrew;

I may have had a related issue. Once, when selecting a song on my iPhone, I held my finger on the song name long enough for a little 'play now' box to pop up. I let the phone continue and when the song played, it was a full volume. It was actually painful on my ears.

I had never had the UQ up to full volume prior to that, and I had the Naim remote sitting on the arm of the chair beside me, so there was not unintentional button-pushing. And at that time, the volume buttons on the remote were not working anyway.

Have you tried resetting the remote as described in other threads? It may clear up some oddness in the remote behaviour, if that is where it its.

I have had the same problem after updating my Uniti to the new firmware and using an Android UPNP control point.

After the update, the Uniti is able to control the volume via UPNP.

In the Andorid app is a shortcut to control the volume, which I used accidently by browsing the music library.

Andrew, I have had a similar problem where the unit would move down to zero volume when it had been muted for a while, and if you took it out of mute by the naim logo button on the front panel it would go down to zero and if you raised the volume by remote it would go back to zero as soon as you let go of the remote button. I lived with it for a bit but then came back one day to find both speakers bass cones blown. There was a fault on the touch button controller chip which needed resoldering apparently. I would suggest you get your dealer to check the unit out, just in case your fault develops a dislike for your speakers like mine did. Simon.
