New to Naim - New NDX Query

Posted by: LightingMan on 27 December 2011

Dear All,

Season's Greetings to everybody.

I have recently purchased a brand new NDX, my first piece of Naim equipment (previously Arcam FMJ) and I have to say that I am very impressed with the sound quality and performance so far.

At the moment I have just got as far as setting up DAB and storing various stations as presets.

However, I have one initial query, I cannot get the "Stop" button either on the front of the NDX panel or on my remote to do anything, it is just not responding at all, although I am aware that the remote is sending out a signal.

Any initial suggestions of what I might have done wrong or how I can this stop function to work would be greatly appreciated.  All the other buttons seem to be working fine.

Regards

Did you have anything to actually stop?

Dab does not count as its basically like radio. If you dont want it switch source

Thanks Garyi for your reply,

I am aware that you can set the display screen to time out and switch off.

I had assumed that the stop button would have stopped the relevant source that was actually playing at any given time.

The manual also states that the NDX should be left permanently on and therefore one does not touch the rocker switch at the rear of the unit, once it is on the on position.

For those who do have a NDX up and running, can I ask what does the stop button on the panel or the remote actually do then ?.

It stops whatever track is playing (via UPnP). For radio etc, i just select another input when i'm finished. Enjoy the NDX. Great product.

Just pressed stop listening to iRadio and it worked as advertised. "Press Play To Reconnect" is then displayed, and pressing play does what one would expect. Mine hasn't had the new board installed yet however. Al.

Thank you everybody for your replies.

The NDX is a great product, the sound from DAB alone is superb.

I expect to set up my router tomorrow and then can access iRadio, cannot wait, then hopefully the stop button will come into use as well. Then in a few weeks it will be onto to a NAS drive.

My NDX is only a few weeks old and therefore has the new board already.

The dab is not connected in any way with stop.

Think about this for a moment. Do you have any other dab products? I promise you they do not have a stop button. If you dont want to hear them any more you turn them off.

The dab on an NDX is no doubt the same as an NVI, i.e. if you don't want to hear it any more switch source to something else. It does not mean the stop button is broken. In DAB you cannot stop, pause, fast forward or rewind a dab source, ultimately its just radio. Its on or it is not.

Hi Garyi,

Thank you for the second update and explanation.

I now understand the operation with the DAB & FM radio.

Moving on to iRadio hopefully later today once I get my new Draytek router installed and up and running.

Regards.

For maximum pleasure use ethernet and not wireless.
