What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Sumptuous box set of 27 cds comprising many Cantatas, the Passions  & Oratorios etc.

"The prerequisite of contrapuntal art, more conspicuous in the work of Bach than in that of any other composer, is an ability to conceive a priori of melodic identities which when transposed, inverted, made retrograde, or transformed rhythmically will yet exhibit, in conjunction with the original subject matter, some entirely new but completely harmonious profile."

'Wind and Wuthering' My favourite Genesis (or perhaps Steve Hackett) album. (original CD release)

'Abacab', remaster, but frankly it isn't worth getting an original. I locationally listen to the title track and and Dodo, the latter mostly for the lovely touch of Collin's drumming. I find all the other tracks unlistenable, and in comparison to the above album, this sounds like little more than a few demos. I can't believe that Hugh Padgham did anything to justify a producer credit.

I would suggest that this album is the band's lowest point, they had not become the pop band of a few years later, and definitiely were not the prog, or rock band they had been a few years before.

With reference to the thread on the '10% rule', this is an album that should not have been got rid of, as it would have been there to remind me not to bother getting it on CD.

Lots more Tangerine Dream 'Tangerine Tree & Leaves' releases and a few Rush albums listened to in the last few days as well.

JamieL has started me off into an electronic groove that I always find difficult to get out of - I enjoy it that much.

An entire run of all of Redshifts output (I should add this is the UK version of Redshift) but as usual, Ether gets played again and again.

I find the way that as Redshift progress onwards, so their albums seem to track those of what they mimic (early Tangerine Dream) up to a  point, around Halo, where they take on where TD left off (and went into 'pop' like short tracks), Halo takes on a whole new Berlin school of electronica where Td could well have been now, and to my mind would be preferable to their output from 'Poland' on.

Already in the Amazon basket. I've been eagerly awaiting it's release for sometime. I think Gale401 might have posted it first.

Great minds think alike. Thanks for the heads up mate.

Just started listening to Sharon Van Etten & will probably get this album, Tramp & the previous release Epic.

Here's some well made video's http://sharonvanetten.com/video

And an unplugged session http://www.bunch.tv/news/sharo...etten-unplugged-2012

Sharon is appearing @ the Scala on 16 May, the night after Steven Wilson. It might be a good gig to unwind with after the night before.
