What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Hi Steve

I should apologise, but what the heck, Redshift (Mark Shreeve) are a great band. Have you been to any of the Hampshire Jam's to see them?

The title track from 'Halo' is amazing, it reminds me quite of lot of Jean Michel Jarre, but 'Faultline' as well as the first 'Redshift' albums are my favourites.

Free System Projekt are another of my favourites from this niche genre, and I also like Arc (2/3 of Redshift these days),espcially 'Arcturus' and some Fanger & Shonwalder.

Still dozens of the Tangerine Tree recordings to work my way though, but nice background music while working on other things, and every so often a real gem of show turns up.

An entire run of all of Redshifts output (I should add this is the UK version of Redshift) but as usual, Ether gets played again and again.

I find the way that as Redshift progress onwards, so their albums seem to track those of what they mimic (early Tangerine Dream) up to a  point, around Halo, where they take on where TD left off (and went into 'pop' like short tracks), Halo takes on a whole new Berlin school of electronica where Td could well have been now, and to my mind would be preferable to their output from 'Poland' on.

Bach on any keyboard or instrument is still Bach but for nearly a century and a half though the Steinway remains the favoured and choice instrument for this music.

Hi Adrian, I finally looked this one up this week, and like it a lot. As I expect you know, the above website has all the songs in full, together with a quirky kind of blog started by Peter.

I've quite a few favourites to choose from, but right now I love the closing track, http://www.itstartshear.com/everything-i-know/

Thanks,

Porcupine Tree - On The Sunday Of Life. Playing through the Unitiserve. Really like this album always seems to be the one that fans like the least. This goes in all different directions which I like, must get this on Vinyl.

Udo Lindenberg und das Panikorchester. So much of talk about German bands in another thread that I had to put this on:

On vinyl. Our substitute German teacher used to play this to us at school.
