What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Groovy, gorgeous. Just listend on MOG and looking forward to getting the CD. Her last release Chamber Music Society, was really well recorded
Chamber Music Society is exceptional on vinyl! : )
She has a beautiful voice, and is intelligent and very talented imo.
I’m wondering if the getto-blaster cover on this new album is deliberate marketing imagery to attract a younger generation, if so this maybe a good idea after her earlier jazz stuff which may have gained an older aged fan club. Her music is fabulously relaxed and sophisticated for someone of her age.
...suppose I’ll have to order this Radio Music Society on vinyl now,
...there goes my careful budget plans : >
jpc Germany - Radio Music Society 2 x LP ~ €27.99

Interesting - haven't seen the LP listed in the US yet. Yes, seems this is deliberate attempt to cross over into new market, though I found it more jazzy/similar to her other work than the hype led me to expect. Article in the NY Times this last weekend about her and the album - believe I can post the link to the article.
Accolades for this disc are deserved. Will bring this CD with me the next time I demo a system - really puts everything through the paces. Dynamics and range of pitch (in the score, performance, and as recorded on the CD) even the playing styles are the widest I've ever heard come out of my speakers and it still has plenty of air and space. total engaging, I'd say riveting.

It's just wonderfull music and great performance
Echoes of the late Chris Whitley.
Arrived in the post today. 1st play of disc 1
Virtually every track on these 3 CDs is remastered and in so doing has brought Wilko Johnson's guitar well to the fore.* This has, to my mind, spoiled them a bit. Listening to the studio versions and comparing them with my original vinyl something has definitely been lost.
The live tracks, although still remastered in the same way, really show what the band were about. I can almost smell the sweat and taste the awful fizzy beer of the early 1970s when they tear into She Does It Right. The studio stuff is pretty tame in comparison.
The sheer amount of material here is overwhelming and I think it could have been trimmed quite a bit without really losing anything. On the other hand completeists will want every last note I guess. For what it's worth, my recommendation is just buy a decent copy of Stupidity, that'll show everything you really need.
*Interestingly, Johnson's autobiography has just been published. Co-incidence? Hmmm....

Dug this out after seeing Steven's comments about Oedipus Tyrannus on the unusual gigs thread, it is all on this Tree release.
Pocusfocus.
I must agree 'Grace for Drowning' is a wonderful piece of work, I am really enjoying the live versions, and they couple of tracks from 'Insurgentes' seem to work better in the company of tracks from his second album.
Lloydy.
Hope you are enjoying the Kraftwerk, that is a fantastic album, I remember blasting 'Man Machine' very loud in the car, as I was going home from buying it, sounds even better, even louder on the Naim.
