What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Got into work way too early this morning so decided to have a synthetic trash music fest.

Started with the truly stunning Steve Wilson

And thought what the hell,

may as well proceed with the trash to

That started the day so well that the ultimate in syntheticness is currently spinning away to my delight.

What I'm listening to: Isabelle Faust playing the Berg and Beethoven Violin Concertos, Harmonia Mundi HMC 902105.

Why might you be interested: The Berg is a seldom-heard and under-rated work, given a compelling performance. The Beethoven is a remarkable performance, with a less-than-usual first movement cadenza. The quality of the recording is outstanding.

Another brilliant recording from Isabelle Faust, who must be one of the best violinists around.
