What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Yeah Baby
Joseph Moog in bold and perfectly judged performances of Rach 3 and Rubinstein 4. Looking forward to hearing more from this young German pianist.
Cheers,

my first play:
at half way though the 1st cd of, Genesis - In The Beginning,
some very sixties groovy tunes here,
buzzy bass guitar noises and vocals sometimes sound a bit similar
to (a mellowed out) black sabbath and Ozzy.
some tracks more polished with violiny strings backing.
So far i'm really enjoying this, nothing i don't like so far.
Recording/mastering quality is quite acceptable too.
Debs
Stunning Blues
Alvin Lee is the Master Shredder!
A great album, worth a listen.
Donny Hathaway - Everything is Everything
Not played this in a while, sounded quite harsh.
Not a bit of it now with the Cirkus and DV-20X2 combo!!
The Boxer Rebellion recorded at 2KHz at Church Studios, London

Ragna Schirmer and the Opus 10 Chopin Etudes plus Corigliano Etude Fantasy and Fantasia on an Ostinato. I have been motivated recently to brush up on a good selection of Chopin Preludes & Etudes recently and so one digs through the recordings to get further servings of humble pie. Although I'm still waiting for her to record the Opus 25 Etudes, this recording of the Opus 10 is just what I needed to hear today. It is just outstanding and I just marvel at the ease with which she seems to play these. Makes my old, tired, arthritic bones feel like giving up....
Why? I simply need music to make it through another day. It is the air I breath; it is the daily sustenance I require and long for. Am I ever thankful that there is no rule that would forbid me from enjoying music in my home or in my travels or while I work or while I am in the shower or while I am exercising etc. In fact, all that is needed to enjoy the whole performance is an open mind and a willingness to seek, find and understand. It takes only an interested individual to transform the shapes and symbols lying dormant on a page to bring them to life. It takes only ears to listen intently whether it be to recorded music or in a live setting. It takes only a mind to think about music or hum along or feel it.
I can think of no greater ambassador for the "just play it or listen to music" campaign than Johann Sebastian Bach himself. All one needs to do is read some of the instructions written in his own hand concerning his intentions for his music. Not good news for those who like to think otherwise. One example of this is found preceding the score of the Well-Tempered Klavier which is one of the most important works ever written. It doesn't get any clearer. Bach was all encompassing and simply wanted people to enjoy music and think about its wondrous depth and beauty.
I suppose one could categorize music generally into that which is probably intended to be shared with large groups of people at a time at least once in a while (ie. like a Beatles or Stones concert). Then there is something like the Goldberg-Variations where the ideal size of the audience seems just right when limited to one or two like-minded souls. Yes, just you (and maybe a score, your instrument or replay equipment), the composer and an undistracted amount of time in your favourite, most comfortable location.
Tonight, just Bach, the score, Ragna Schirmer and a wonderful Hamburg Steinway.
