What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.
Anyway, links:

Isabelle Faust in a ten years old recording of Faure's sonatas for violin & piano.
Günter Wand: Bruckner
Could this be my unconscious preparation and signal for a big change in my listening habits coming in about 1 to 2 weeks? Once in a while, like tonight, I am starting to listen to CD's that come in big boxes that resemble a nice vinyl box set like this one !!
Berlioz: Symphony Fantastique
Monteux/Vienna Phil
[Vinyl]
A (vinyl-ist) friend came round last night and revealed a liking for AK. Having played this, he's now gone away to hunt down a copy - but I think he'll have a long wait to find a Mo-Fi version.
Last night..

Been looking on Amazon for this cover piccy which proved too hard to find..
So i went into my accounts purchase history to find the correct cover picture : )
It amused me to see that almost [to one day] a year had passed since I’d purchased
this 3 x CD box-set.
When played a year ago it was my first hearing of this work, i was intrigued and fascinated by the strangeness and arrangement of different styles of composition but perhaps then i found this, and perhaps also the major-minor contrast too disengaging… don’t know but I’d had my fill after the 3rd disc.
This morning I return home from a very busy (yes really!) working night-shift. Commuting home something on [BBC3] the car radio put a need of ‘Russian piano music’ into my head so this is why this work is being played now.
I still cannot pretend to fully understand the complexity of this music, it doesn’t seem to attach itself to a particular emotion but rather explores or drifts in and out of different moods.
But this morning this effect has been the most pleasant, very therapeutically teasing out all the stress I’ve endured from an over-hard week of work. I’m ready to believe these discs are de-cluttering/scanning/soothing software for biological computer grey-matter.
Surely a failure to understand the slightest intellect of these piano pieces matters not when the appreciation is so warm and real?

On vinyl.

This reminded me that it has been awhile since I last played any Beatles so I'll join with:
On 80's reissue vinyl.
Great performances of these relatively unknown sonatas. The recording quality is quite unusual, can't quite put my finger on it but it lacks naturalness.

Playing my replaced copy on the black stuff for the first time.

EJ,
I don't know if Lisitsa's out of print (unedited) recordings on AUDIOFON are available in Europe, but if they are I would urge you to get them.
My favorite disc of hers is Russian music for two pianos which she performed with her husband Alexei Kuznetsoff (volume 1).
Regards,
Haim

Haim, what repertoire does she play on these discs? There are so many brilliant young (-ish... she's my age) pianists out there, it's difficult to find the cream of the crop.
