What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

So is the CDSII playing:-

'The Ash' have knocked out a few Turkeys since the early 1980's I reckon, but this is a return to form for me, being musically rewarding and interesting from start to finish. The re-mixed hidden track on the end is very modern and decidedly 'un-Ash', but works really well.

Andy Powell's voice is as good as ever (not bad for 62 year old bald geyser). Ditto his guitar playing. He also produced the album, mixing it on an AMS-Neve Genesys analogue desk. It shows - the recording quality is very nice and not over-compressed. It has sweetness, space and dynamics.

Hi Stu,

This Dave Brubeck set sounds fine musically, only on cd 3 with lots in live and mono so far, sound reproduction sounds a little dated and subdued, no idea how this has been mastered digitally for cd but the SQ leaves a little something to be desired.

Still sounds good though.

This Documents 10xCD boxful was a pre-owned bargain for what worked out for me at 71p per disc.

This set may lead me to the must have tracks i need to buy on vinyl.

Right now it's just the perfect background music while I’m cooking me lunch : )

Hi Stuart,

The ultimate live 'Ash' album for me is (double vinyl) 'Live Dates II'. AP's guitar playing on 'Persephone' is particularly superb.

John.

John,

Same here.

My live Ash journey started at Steve's with his pro vinyl to CD copy he had done many years ago.

You were there that day,It was before lunch.

I have two copies now on vinyl.

My original German is still my fav.

Live Dates one is no slacker on vinyl.

Regards,

Stu.
