What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Idomeneo is Mozart's most underrated opera IMO, a mature work slightly held back by the conventions of the then-aging opera seria, but with some of the best music he ever wrote.

Jacobs was on inspired form for this recording, I find it's the best of his Mozart opera cycle.

On Vinyl, last session on LP12 prior to Cymbiosis fettling and Khan plate. Sounding sweet as is.

Paris

Now a member of the Khan'ed brigade and cannot help spinning my older vinyl - a serious upgrade.

It doesn't play as a I remember it......new things are now emerging on many fronts.

And back to Bach, with Mullova's complete sonatas and partitas for solo violin.

Good as Mullova is (I actually prefer her austere first recording for Philips), she remains earth-bound where Faust achieves lift-off - despite the same basic approach to these works, Faust has a lighter touch and a wider variety of colors.

Just surfing on Amazon when I fell into Aimee Mann and just a few moments later this had found its way onto the CD player. Classy voice!

Happened across this whilst looking for something else. This will do very nicely.

Rest of the family off to bed, just me and a bottle of white to enjoy some of my favorite discs. Could be worse...

Is she unplugged and just gets to sing over the players?
