What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

First play and enjoyed it. A refreshing variety of songs which will make revisting them something to look forward to. That's what a recording should hope to achieve.

This will learn me...don't use lap top on a Saturday night after a couple of scoops...hic and be brousing sites that sell CD's, and then think Oooo I bet this is nice...

and you know what it's excellent...so are the other six CD's that turned up yesterday.

How do I explain that to the wife!!

The music I ordered was out of my ususal genre, but so glad I did even if I had beer goggles on.

How many of us have done that

Andras Schiff was on the car radio today, with a splendid performance of Beethoven's piano concerto #2. It was the Teldec recording with Haitink conducting. I don't have that recording myself (I wish I had), but it prompted me to seek out the excellent Perahia/Haitink partnership.

Cheers,

Just watched a recorded episode about a certain English band in the 70-80's.

Now enjoying their icon album again. Mrs. Mulder is upstairs, so not too bothered playing loud :-) great great great

It has a prism on the cover.

Cheers, Fred

Hi Jono,

Are my new copies on Classic 200g just very unlucky?

I have other Classic 200g vinyl (all Jazzy stuff) that is really really lovely but this Led Zep tSRtS 2xLP set i recently purchased is slightly warpy, centre hole not centre enough for my liking, and a 'small cut' into the vinyl on track 1 of side 4 that causes the needle to get stuck in the loop.

Musically: the sound is steely and distant, and lacked the real atmosphere of a live event, too over bright and compressed.

So my duff 200g set is now on the return trip for refund.

Would be nice to hear from anyone who knows what the Rhino 4 x 180g set is like (?)
