What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

EJ,

Don't miss Lorraine Hunt's earlier Handel Album, it is as good as her Bach.

Regards,

Haim

As a request from my wife

I couldn't sleep last night.  All the excitement coming to a head after months of anticipation mixed with many setbacks and of course, the dreaded remorse of a New Year resolution to return to vinyl.

Posted on: 15 April 2012 by Florestan

This is fun!  Attention to every detail is just one of my more redeeming characteristics but I'm running out of test records.

Snap, crackle, pop: check.   (After 25 years of clean CD living why did I somehow forget some of these aspects?).  Oh, my memory is coming back quick now.  It's the seventies all over again.  But I enjoyed it back then?  In fact, it was a cheap turntable often stacked with 2 or 3 albums at a time which gave me my introduction to music and some of my fondest memories.   Why should I be so worried?

I blame all the other music loving nuts in this madhouse for my irrational behaviour.

Each year I make New Year resolutions like that I will exercise more, take better care of myself & eat better etc. and of course that lasts until 2:30pm January 1st every year.  I still made those same resolutions this year as always but after some months of thinking about it, I decided to add a different one.  To seal my fate I started buying records again on January 1st, 2012.  Due to a flood in my basement last year I wasn't able to find the room to set everything back up again until this week as my living room was stacked with boxes.

So, it was actually late last night, with a sweaty, shaky hand I carefully took a deep breath and became a kid again.
