What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread.  I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

My fondness for Norway and Grieg grew with this 1993 recording.

Another album that was preparation for a trip to Norway in late 1993 / 1984

Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano chart the origins of the string quartet, in early 17th century Italy. The plangent, nimble quality that makes this crew so well equipped for Monteverdi works its wonders in this (instrumental) music, as well. Wonderful CD.

<snip couple of great Grieg discs>

Doug, wonderful collection. Almost complete - do you also have the complete Peer Gynt from Järvi?

Side note: what do you think of Dumay? I love his sound, but he usually has this old fashioned quality of introducing vibrato on the note. Must be me, but it starts to grate on repeated listenings. I'm still contemplating some his duo recordings with Pires.

Cheers,

A new recording of Bach's gamba sonatas: can't get enough of them!
