What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol.VIII)

With 2012 almost upon us, it's time to start a fresh thread. I've gone back to an earlier thread title because often the "why" is the most interesting part of the post.

Debs, this is one of my all time favorite sets. I have an earlier box, with the CDs in separate cases. Having declared my love, I have to say it is the late quartets where the ABQ shine.
Have fun,
EJ
Just clicked on this brilliant album.

Hi EJ,
I noticed your post and “perfection” comment a few days ago which prompted me to look at what’s to offer, and buying the whole box-set is actually a lot less expensive than buying just a few later discs. Quite a good deal for £13.98 imho ; )
I already have 2 other complete and marvellous sets on near mint vinyl, a nice set by the Amadeus Quartet (DG) which is wonderfully dynamic in places, and my present favourite which has a constant grip and charm though-out by the little known Quatour Bulgare (harmonia mundi). Both sets are 10 x LP each.
Will have good fun comparing them with the Alban Berg, and can say I’m already enjoying the early works, on disc 2 now...
Thanks for your post the other day! : )
Debs
On CD:-
Worth having for the rip roaring track 'Disorder in the House' with Springsteen's guitar fixing to explode.
I dont remember the last time i played this brill album?
The 202/200 knocking threads made me think of it.
It was to long ago though.
Stu.
People ask for a reason why one plays a album?
I play this set because its a wonderful collection of players ,and well put together sounds that move me.
I love everyone of the 10 discs.
I have one fav track that always makes me smile when i need a laugh though.
Earl Zinger Escape from ibiza original mix.
Its on the tube.

Bloodless Coup & Future Perfect Tense were played from this album last night @ Hoxton. SBP are now a 6 piece 'live' band and their performances are becoming more assured. The harmonies are still great and with two guitars the sound is much richer. A band with plenty of new ideas and looking forward to the new album in a couple of weeks.

My journey will end with this which is currently playing.
<snip couple of great Grieg discs>
Doug, wonderful collection. Almost complete - do you also have the complete Peer Gynt from Järvi?
Side note: what do you think of Dumay? I love his sound, but he usually has this old fashioned quality of introducing vibrato on the note. Must be me, but it starts to grate on repeated listenings. I'm still contemplating some his duo recordings with Pires.
Cheers,
EJ
EJ, I don't have any of the Järvi discs. I guess I'll have to hunt them down.
I do not mind the rich tone of Dumay at all. I think I have most of the recordings with Dumay / Pires but then this may be so due to my fondness of Pires?
A Chopin evening on vinyl.
Started with the Preludes (1975), Etudes (1972), then Polonaises (1976)
Chopin Scherzos and Impromptus (1974) on vinyl.
Kuma, especially for you.
Kuma,
If you can find a vinyl copy over there?
Grab it.
Stu.
Just found this one mis-filed on my JS Bach shelf. The sound is a bit thin but it's fun
to hear it again after a few years.
One of Isabelle Faust's earliest recordings. Compared with the more recent Gringolts/Laul, I prefer this rendition for its clarity. And Faust sounds infinitely more appealing than Gidon Kremer (IMO).

Same reason! Pires can do nothing wrong with me. I never saw her live, unfortunately - every time I had tickets, she cancelled the concert.

Black stuff.
180g Rhino Black Stuff!
Why?.....I needed waking up after playing Dire Straits a bit earlier.
On iTunes/Laptop/B&O headphones.
Just sublime tunes.
